Africa has a unique opportunity to get ahead of some of the online harms already engulfing the West. This we can do by not repeating the same mistakes, but by learning from them. We can build safeguards earlier, anticipate risks, and make digital adoption safer by design.
Africa can observe technologies already developed elsewhere & adopt them while avoiding some of the expensive mistakes, privacy problems, environmental damage experienced by earlier adopters.

Online harms requires collaboration and learning from one another. No country can do it alone.
It was therefore pleasing to see the @UCC_Official tap into my experience and expertise to draw valuable lessons on strengthening child online protection in UG.
Strengthening partnerships for a safer internet for children.
The dialogue on Child Online Protection brought together Mr. Joseph Kizito, Head of Consumer Affairs at the Uganda Communications Commission, and Mr. David Moepeng, Director of Cybersmart Group and Lead Coordinator of the African Cybersmart Network, South Africa.
We remain committed to promoting awareness and building a resilient, safer online environment for every child in Uganda.

Recently had the pleasure of participating in a live discussion about safe and risky online behaviors on the BTC Podcast in Botswana. Hosted by Kedi Molosiwa, I was joined, in the discussion by fellow cybersecurity awareness advocate Ms Segametsi Mafa from Service Xcellence.
Russia has reportedly fined Google more than 2 undecillion rubles in US Dollars, which basically amounts to a 2 followed by 36 zeroes This is after Google refused to pay fines that are now accruing for blocking pro-Russian channels on YouTube.

1/3 The inaugural Cybersecurity Indaba was a great success, and I’m honored to have been part of it. I had the opportunity to express my strong belief in the urgent need to intensify cybersecurity awareness efforts across all levels of society to effectively combat cyber threats.
2/3 In particular, I emphasised the importance of targeted awareness, not just at the user level but also among decision-makers.
Had a fantastic time engaging with participants at the South African Internet Governance Forum, hosted by @dotZADNA. I was impressed by the interest of participants in cyberpsychology, and I am glad I left quite a number inspired to pursue studies in the field.
