Russia is getting a taste of its own medicine. St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region came under the largest Ukrainian drone attack, with hundreds of drones targeting critical infrastructure. According to russian reports the following objects were hit: The St. Petersburg Oil Terminal. The VKontakte data center. The 330 kV Vostochnaya electrical station. A major cable-stayed bridge in St. Petersburg. Parts of the region experienced electricity outages and disruptions to water supplies. For years, russia has systematically attacked Ukraineโ€™s energy infrastructure, oil facilities, and civilian infrastructure, trying to plunge Ukrainian cities into darkness. Now, the war is increasingly reaching russiaโ€™s own critical infrastructure. Putin wanted to destroy Ukraineโ€™s economy. Instead, he is destroying russiaโ€™s economy. Russia can stop this war at any moment by leaving Ukrainian territory.

๐Ÿšœ This is what a tax against growth looks like. A @CLAtweets survey of 700 rural family businesses found: ๐Ÿšœ 89% have paused investment ๐Ÿšœ 64% of those cancelling projects have abandoned plans worth more than ยฃ50,000 ๐Ÿšœ More than a third have withheld over ยฃ150,000 ๐Ÿšœ 85% say the ยฃ2.5 million allowance does not cover their business ๐Ÿšœ Almost half expect to sell at least a quarter of their land ๐Ÿšœ 70% fear their business will not survive another decade These are not passive assets sitting in a bank account. They are working farms: asset rich but often desperately cash poor. Farmers are cancelling machinery purchases, holiday accommodation, solar panels, crop production and reservoirs desperately needed to withstand drought. Some are even allowing buildings and land to deteriorate because the Government has created a financial incentive to prevent their businesses increasing in value. Hannah Darbyโ€™s family has shelved a ยฃ200,000 holiday let conversion and a 16kW solar installation. An inheritance tax bill approaching ยฃ500,000 could force them to sell land and leave their farm unviable. The entire APR/BPR reform is forecast to raise only about ยฃ295 million a year by 2030โ€“31. Yet it is already freezing private investment, weakening food production, obstructing renewable energy and destroying confidence throughout the rural economy. The Governmentโ€™s impact assessment claimed the policy would have no significant macroeconomic effect. The real economy is now delivering its verdict. If @andyburnham and @JohnHealey_MP genuinely want growth in every postcode, they must reverse this self defeating tax in the autumn Budget. You cannot tax working family farms into shrinking and call it economic growth.

Stop presenting it as a farmer tax. Itโ€™s a family business tax. You aide the conversation that farming is treated preferentially as a result.
Could the family farm tax be scrapped at next monthโ€™s Budget? โŒ The Mail on Sunday reports that Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering reversing the Inheritance Tax changes. Raising the threshold for full agricultural and business property relief from ยฃ2.5 million to ยฃ5 million is also reportedly under consideration. Nothing has been announced. Elon Musk says Jacob Coxonโ€™s warning about the existential threat of AI is a โ€œsetup.โ€ Really? In 2014, Musk said, โ€œWith artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon.โ€ In 2018, Musk said, โ€œMark my words, AI is far more dangerous than nukes. Far. So why do we have no regulatory oversight? This is insane.โ€ In 2025, Musk said, earth faces a 10-20% chance of โ€œkiller robots annihilating humanity.โ€ Elon, whatโ€™s changed? Does it have anything to do with the fact that you have invested many billions of dollars in AI and plan to build ten million robots a year?

In April 2022, a 12-year-old Russian girl named Masha Moskalyova was told in art class to draw a picture supporting russian troops in Ukraine. Instead, she drew a Ukrainian mother protecting her child as russian missiles flew toward them. On the Ukrainian flag she wrote, โ€œGlory to Ukraine.โ€ On the russian flag: โ€œNo to war. No to Putin.โ€ Her school reported her to the authorities. Police began investigating her father, Alexei Moskalyov, a single father who had raised Masha largely on his own. They searched his social media and discovered posts criticizing russiaโ€™s invasion and documenting russian atrocities in Bucha. In December 2022, around a dozen russian security officers raided their home. They ransacked it, seized their computers, phones, and savings. Alexei later said that during interrogations, officers beat him and slammed his head against the wall and floor. They blasted the russian national anthem at full volume while questioning him. Eventually, the regime charged him with repeatedly โ€œdiscreditingโ€ the russian military because of his anti-war social-media posts. Masha was taken away from him and placed in a state โ€œsocial rehabilitationโ€ center. Alexei was sentenced to two years in a penal colony. He later described horrific conditions there: a tiny punishment cell roughly two meters long, freezing temperatures, rats crawling out of the sewer, and days when he was forced to stand for as long as 16 hours because the bunk was locked against the wall. Meanwhile, his daughter wrote to him. โ€œDad, donโ€™t give up.โ€ โ€œYou are my hero.โ€ They were separated for more than a year and a half. On October 15, 2024, Alexei finally walked out of prison. Masha was waiting for him. Five days later, they fled russia. They first escaped to Armenia and applied for a German humanitarian visa. After waiting for more than a year, their case stalled when Germany suspended the relevant humanitarian admission program. Then France stepped in. In March 2026, Masha and Alexei received French humanitarian visas and flew to Paris. And on July 17, 2026, France granted them political asylum. Today, Masha is drawing again and hopes to pursue art. She also writes and has spoken out in support of russian political prisoners. When asked whether, knowing everything that happened afterward, she would still have made that drawing, Masha said she would. โ€œOne only lives once.โ€ One drawing. A child saying no to war. And for that, the russian state destroyed their home, separated a father from his daughter, imprisoned him, and drove them both into exile. This is what dictatorship looks like. . @EssexPR is so thick. He thinks arson means climate change canโ€™t play a factor. Itโ€™s the definitive factor. Fires start all the time, whether itโ€™s arson, barbecues, cigarettes, fireworks, lightning, pylons, dropped glass, etc. When itโ€™s cold or even normal temperature small fires are easy to put out. But when itโ€™s weeks into record-breaking heat, which sucks the moisture out of vegetation and dries everything up, clearly, as any idiot can understand, fires more easily spread and are at far more risk of becoming catastrophic events. This is why we are seeing record-breaking wildfires all over the world from France to Spain to the USA to Croatia, after record-breaking heat. As NASA states, extreme wildfires have more than doubled across the world as it heats up science.nasa.gov/earth/exploโ€ฆ Itโ€™s probably true that idiots are taking the opportunity to cause chaos by lighting fires - but the fact remains they wouldnโ€™t be able to do that if it wasnโ€™t for the record-breaking heat and drought - which is only going to get worse and worse and worse over the coming years. It seems Adam Brooks will continue to put his political ideology that demands he doesnโ€™t accept climate change science is real, because its woke, lol (and Reform are funded by the fossil fuel industry) ahead of his familyโ€™s safety. Heโ€™ll be making excuses when we see record-breaking flooding as we likely will this winter. Madness.

Three quarters of England is in drought. The driest July in 190 years. August rainfall so far is 5% of average. Livestock farmers are eating into winter forage in August. Grass has stopped growing. In places it has gone completely. And standing there untouched is forage in SFI and stewardship margins, legume fallows and non food crops that scheme rules say cannot be grazed or cut. Most of it flowered and went over weeks ago. Defra's position, published yesterday, is that they are "actively considering" temporary adjustments and will update "as soon as possible". Consider it faster. This costs the taxpayer nothing. Not a penny. No new budget, no new scheme, no consultation. Just a national derogation on land that is already paid for. The precedent is set. Defra did it in 2018 with 40 temporary prescription adjustments. They did it again in 2022. Both times under a different government. So why can't this one manage it? Stock have to be fed this winter. Decide now ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Ž @DefraGovUK @angelaeagle @StephenMorganMP @Ruralpay @TheFarmingForum @agricontract @wheat_daddy @loosecollie @GBNEWS
