this is completely surreal lol. the part where it just cuts to a close-up of shami chakrabarti looking confused and horrified while ashok is just calmly explaining common sense points

That ‘we’ obviously does not include the general public who have no voice whatsoever.

What? So if you express support for Palestine Action and are the wife of Andy Burnham’s national security adviser Jonathan Powell, you get a free pass from the police? But if you’re a retired teacher, you get 27 hours in custody and your home turned over by the police?
No further action to be taken against the wife of the Prime Minister’s national security adviser for support of Palestine Action
3,800+ arrests of people peacefully holding signs, and 36 counter-terror home raids for social media posts have taken place.

Replying to @BBCNewsnight
The BBC are allowing us to experience what it was like to be lectured by the inbred sons of wealth from pre-Dickensian times. And people say it is of no value and that's why the government is going to make us get an internet license for the few parts they don't ban.

Living in Europe is funny because NATO and EU politicians try and convince you that both Russian invasion is coming tomorrow and Russia is also super weak and Ukraine is about to win the war
NATO's Rutte:
Here is the main thing: We are stronger. Russia is not in a good place. Hybrid attacks and whatever it is are a sign of weakness.
What they would love us to do is to talk about it the whole day and to be rattled and to have press conferences on it. We're not going to do that.
We will react where we need to react, again, not always visibly.

Let’s be clear, if Sally Rooney had been doing the TV rounds justifying Israel’s bombing of hospitals and the slaughter in Gaza, instead of defending the Palestinian peoples’ right to exist, she would still be able to sell her books in Britain today.

Funny how it's always 'political' when it comes to Palestine but never Ukraine.
Metallica Frontman James Hetfield just called out artists who turn their concerts into political rallies: “Metallica is not here, like some other entertainers, to influence you with their BULLSH*T.”
It’s great to hear a musician say this instead of betraying their own fans and attacking them from the stage.
An effect of proscribing a group with quite broad support that is both entirely predictable & clearly ludicrous and culturally destructive. If Palestine Action are terrorists, Rooney’s books not being sold in Britain, follows logically.
Sally Rooney's books can no longer be sold in Britain due to her support for Palestine Action.
She refused to withdraw her support for the direct action group which targeted the Israeli arms industry, costing her the royalties from all of her UK sales.

The totally irresponsible conflation of anti-Zionism and criticism of Israel with the scourge of antisemitism is utterly disgraceful, and continues to put the safety and security of British Jews at risk.
🚨 WATCH: Andy Burnham rules out a coalition deal with the Green Party over its "Zionism is racism" motion
"It is wrong. It is antisemitic. We will have nothing to do with it"

In the same session he said to Nigel Farage "There's a lot we disagree on but I defend his right to say it".
Really says it all.

Just to jog people's memory, in case we're wondering what happened to journalistic integrity at the Guardian.
& yet these “terrorists” directed by a country Britain is basically at war with got bail pretty much immediately. They’re laughing at us.

I wanted taxpayer-funded statues of the Viet Cong xitter.cf/CllrChrisEynon/status/…
Recently, I’ve taken heavy flak from the usual suspects for refusing to assist in a memorial to 20 men who went to fight with the communist-organised International Brigades.
What next? Taxpayer-funded statues of the Viet Cong? The Weather Underground? Or, God forbid, Jamie Driscoll?
Not one penny of council taxpayers’ money or time will go towards this absolute nonsense.
I’d much rather see public money used to honour the 20,000 patriots from Wearside who answered their actual country’s call in the First World War.

If you're a bit slow, let me explain what's going on: police arrested a bunch of lads near RAF Fairford, found no evidence of terrorism and therefore released them on bail. Marco Rubio then told Andy Burnham that we're messing his narrative up and we'd better blame Iran or else.

how pathetic is it that yorke has to do this with styles, someone he would have looked down on fifteen years ago, because he alienated all the british musicians he actually respects over palestine
In their Musicians on Musicians conversation, @Harry_Styles opens up to @thomyorke about why he got emotional during his London shows.
“I think for me, the kind of emotion that happened at the end of the London shows was like, I think it was just a realization of that those shows felt so much to me, like a culmination of so many people's support, I think.”

In 2021, the Uni of Nottingham spent £37.5 million buying a new campus, in central Nottingham.
They then spent £40 million developing it.
It is expected to be sold for £14 million.

Nottingham was 6th for modern languages in the 2021 REF and is the only university in East Midlands providing language courses. The closure of an objectively brilliant department by a Russell Group university raises questions about the 2015 decision to uncap student numbers and leave UK HE provision entirely to market forces timeshighereducation.com/new…

Another way to kill a language, that you didn't mention in your book: get Gove to create the Year 6 language curriculum, where he'll stuff it full of decontextualised 'grammar', and use that as a metric for 'expected levels of writing', divorced from meaning, effect, audience
wow - thank you so much for shouting out How To Kill A Language @campbellclaret!! And how nice to hear @michaelgove defending the UK’s language diversity.
I’m on a mission to raise awareness about linguicide - to get the word on the UK’s number 1 podcast is… 🥹
