In Marigat Village, Kabazi Ward, Subukia Sub-County, a #FLLoCA funded propagation hub is growing the seeds of climate resilience. The hub's solar-powered water system is now running, feeding three 10,000-litre tanks, irrigation lines and two greenhouses where sweet potatoes, cassava and nutrient-rich indigenous vegetables are being propagated for local farmers. A community field day will give farmers hands-on training in climate-smart agriculture, helping them grow more food with less water. By focusing on drought-resistant crops, the hub is strengthening food security and livelihoods in Kabazi Ward.

More than 5,000 households in Kokwomoi, Soin Ward, Rongai Sub-County are set to benefit from a clean water project funded through the #FLLoCA Program. Building on a borehole first drilled by the County Government of Nakuru, the investment covers solarisation, water kiosks, 10,000 and 50,000 litre storage tanks, and a 5.2 kilometre pipeline serving Upper and Lower Kokwomoi, including Kokwomoi Primary School. Security lights, fencing and a gate protect the infrastructure. With the project 95 percent complete, residents are already drawing clean, safe water, with Kokwomoi Dispensary and the nearby shopping centre next in line. Ward Climate Change Committees are rallying the community to protect and maintain the project for generations to come.

The Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Blue Sky Rescue Foundation, Mr. Zhang Yong, led a delegation from the organization in paying a courtesy call on the Authority's Director/CEO, Dr Laxmana Kiptoo, to discuss opportunities for strengthening collaboration in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and humanitarian assistance in Kenya. The meeting explored avenues for supporting Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs) engaged in rescue operations, particularly during emergencies such as floods, and enhancing strategic partnerships with the Kenya Red Cross Society to strengthen coordination, capacity building, and community resilience. PBORA remains committed to fostering partnerships that enhance the capacity of the PBO sector to deliver timely, effective, and coordinated humanitarian interventions for the benefit of communities across Kenya. ^ MN

Way to go! #Goodgovernance
In the past two days, representatives from 98 Public Benefit Organizations engaged deeply with critical compliance topics, including Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), annual reporting obligations, and sound governance practices. The training was highly interactive, with participants actively engaging facilitators, sharing real operational challenges, and leaving with practical tools to strengthen compliance within their organizations. Sessions on AML/CFT drew particular interest, reflecting the sector's growing awareness of its role in safeguarding Kenya's financial system. For PBORA, this level of engagement is expected to translate into stronger compliance across the sector. Well-governed, compliant PBOs are better positioned to build donor confidence and support Kenya's broader efforts against illicit financial flows, outcomes the Authority anticipates will follow as lessons from the training are put into practice. Building on this momentum, the Authority has scheduled further training sessions in September and December this year, extending this capacity-building drive to more regions and reaching even more organizations across the sector. This is part of PBORA's continued commitment to a well-informed, compliant, and empowered PBO sector. #PBORA #CapacityBuilding #AMLCFT #PBOACT

Kenya Strengthens Climate Action and Environmental Governance through High-Level Consultative Meeting Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening environmental governance and advancing climate action following a high-level virtual consultative meeting convened by the Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff, @koske_felix. The meeting brought together senior officials from the Ministry of @Environment_Ke, heads of agencies, board chairpersons, technical experts and field officers from across the country. In his address, Mr. Koskei commended staff for their continued dedication in safeguarding the country’s natural resources, acknowledging that much of their work takes place behind the scenes but remains vital to Kenya’s future. He noted encouraging progress in ecosystem restoration, forest cover growth and increasing public awareness on environmental conservation, and emphasized the importance of building on these gains in line with the government’s priorities under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He observed that the environment, forestry and climate change sectors play an important role in supporting Kenya’s economic transformation, resilience and sustainable development. In this regard, he highlighted the national programme to grow 15 billion trees by 2032, noting that the initiative seeks not only to increase tree cover but also to support ecosystem restoration, protect water towers, conserve biodiversity and create green jobs, particularly for young people. While Kenya has surpassed the constitutional requirement of 10 percent forest cover and now stands at over 12 percent, Mr. Koskei noted that there is still more to be done in addressing deforestation, land degradation and climate-related challenges. He pointed out that a significant portion of the country remains arid and semi-arid, making it vulnerable to climate variability and environmental shocks. The Head of Public Service also highlighted Kenya’s continued leadership in global climate action, including its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 32 percent by 2030 under its Nationally Determined Contributions. He emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination, enhancing data systems, supporting effective policy implementation and mobilizing climate finance to achieve these goals. He noted that climate change continues to present real challenges, including prolonged droughts, erratic rainfall and occasional flooding, which impact key sectors such as agriculture, water and energy. He also referenced ongoing initiatives such as the restoration of the Nairobi River, underscoring the value of sustained collaboration, improved waste management and collective responsibility in ensuring their success. Mr. Koskei encouraged institutions to continue strengthening implementation, enhancing coordination and focusing on measurable outcomes. He observed that while significant efforts are being made, there is an opportunity to place greater emphasis on long-term impact, including tree survival rates and sustained ecosystem restoration. He further emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity and accountability in service delivery, noting that citizens value tangible improvements such as access to clean water, reduced pollution and well-protected natural resources. He called for continued collaboration across institutions and alignment with national priorities to enhance service delivery. During the meeting, Principal Secretary for @EnviClimateC_Ke, Dr. @Eng_F_Ngeno reaffirmed the State Department’s commitment to advancing Kenya’s climate and environmental agenda. He outlined key priorities under Executive Order No. 1 of June 2025, including strengthening environmental governance, promoting conservation and restoration of wetlands, mobilizing resources for climate action and enhancing research and development in climate and weather services. 👇👇 facebook.com/share/p/1CG5v6f…

The Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (PBORA) has the pleasure to inform all the public benefit organizations (PBOs), development partners, and all the stakeholders that the long-awaited Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) Regulations, have been published. The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, published the regulations in a Special Issue of the Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 67 (Legal Notice No. 43), dated 18 March 2026. The publication of the Regulations in the Kenya Gazette marks a crucial step towards a robust regulatory framework for the PBO sector in Kenya as the regulations will now operationalize the PBO Act, 2013 and this comes at a good time to enable the PBOs that have been registered under the repealed NGOs Coordination Act to transition to the PBO Act framework. The Regulations were developed jointly by the Authority and the PBO sector in a participatory manner that has brought a sense of ownership and sustainability to the sector. The regulations can be accessed from the Authority’s website at pbora.go.ke and the Ministry of Interior and National Administration website at interior.go.ke. ^MN
