18 counties have been identified requiring priority preparedness and response measures because of their exposure to flooding, landslides, drought, food insecurity, disease outbreaks and other possible El Nino related impacts.
The national risk assessment, prepared by the National Disaster Operations Centre @NDOCKenya, places counties in the Coastal, Lake Basin, Rift Valley and North Eastern regions among the areas facing the highest level of vulnerability.
Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu have also been singled out as high-risk urban centres.
On 20th October 2026, Kenya 🇰🇪 will honor her Mashujaa, among them Nandi born athletics legend Kipchoge Keino, whose historic gold medal victory at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics helped announce our country's arrival as a global athletics powerhouse.
Karibuni Nandi, the Source of Champions!
Not all heroes wear capes, and not all Shujaas are found in high offices. Some serve right at the grassroots, where leadership meets the people.
Our chiefs and assistant chiefs are a true representation of these unsung heroes, serving communities, resolving conflicts, promoting peace, and standing with the people every day.
They too are Shujaas, and their contribution to nation-building deserves recognition and celebration.
Happy Mashujaa Day! 🇰🇪
From 3 months, to the same day service and now, just minutes.
That’s how fast the new @DCI_Kenya Multi-Biometric Identification System launched in July 2026 is issuing certificates of good conduct.
Come experience this firsthand in Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties as part of the Mashujaa Day 2026 Thematic Week exhibition.
Widely celebrated as Kenya’s 🇰🇪 breadbasket, Uasin Gishu recorded the country’s highest maize production in 2024, harvesting approximately over 400k tonnes.
The fertile highlands combined with the National Fertilizer Subsidy Programme, have supported maize and wheat farmers, making the county central to food security.
This Mashujaa Day 2026, as the nation gathers in the North Rift, we also celebrate the often unsung farmers, workers, transporters and traders whose labour sustains our agricultural economy.
“Thank you for the stadiums, thank you for the university, and thank you for the improved security and roads. Saa hizi, sisi wamama tunalala bila stress, kwa sababu kuna amani na usalama.” - Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services, Hanna Wendot Cheptumo speaking in Baringo on the fourth day of President William Ruto’s North Rift development tour.
“No matter our disagreements, we must have a country first. And to be able to realize the dreams of our founding fathers, we must first secure peace.”
In Loving Memory of the Afro-optimist, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga - Baba as we celebrate legacies of Kenya’s 🇰🇪 Mashujaa.

For years, banditry had taken the Kerio Valley captive, disrupting livelihoods and essential government services, including education and healthcare.
Even though we have pacified the region, we will continue investing in security operations and other interventions until lasting peace and stability is restored to the entire belt.
To protect our children and communities, we will also take firm action against those involved in the illegal sale and distribution of harmful substances.
