What Education Freedom Tax Credit implementation actions should states, scholarship granting organizations (SGOs), and donors take between now and the end of the year?
Ashling Preston with @SchoolChoiceNow says:
▪️ Governors must opt in by 1/1/27 so students in their states can receive scholarships next year. The Treasury Department's temporary regulations clarify "exactly what the states need to do to opt in."
▪️Governors' offices should establish an EFTC point person and start identifying SGOs. The deadline for states to submit SGO lists to Treasury is 2/15/27.
▪️ With Treasury's proposed rule answering a lot of operational questions, it is time for SGOs to metabolize their responsibilities and build them into their business practices.
▪️ Taxpayers can start identifying where they want to donate.
▪️ Everyone can go to regulations.gov to submit comments before the December 1 deadline.

Here's a taste of my argument in a new article on the causes and practical solutions for doctor shortages in the US in @AcademicRenewal (1/):
U.S. medical schools reject qualified applicants while hospitals increasingly rely on foreign-trained doctors to fill residency positions.

It's amazing that universities would flout rules on foreign workers given that they are already exempt from all of the limits on visas that every other industry faces. Read the details in my recent report for @DFIPolicy dfi.createsend1.com/t/t-i-wk…

The US has an open border in academia. There are no limits on F-1 or H-1B visas for universities. This open border raises the risks of getting faculty, staff, and students like Prof. Ha. dfipolicy.org/dangerous-rise…
🚨 UPDATE 🚨
Guangtian Ha, the Haverford College professor who was just arrested by the FBI for online harassment is a Muslim from China.
He was hiding behind 4 anonymous “MAGA” accounts, repeatedly threatening and harassing Jewish citizens.
Professor Ha was once described by his colleagues as, “one of the most innovative, interesting, and engaged scholars of Islam in China.”
- “Jew get the f*ck out of my country.”
- “If Jews are so special, they should be placed in special camps and receive special treatment.”
In an online interview, he said that it’s important to introduce Islam in China by showing its beauty and charm first, then discuss its politics and tenets. 😬
This lunatic arrived in our nation from Beijing for graduate studies at Columbia University.
He has a lengthy history of public antisemitism, but Haverford College refused to fire him.
We currently have 40,000 foreign professors on visas in America.
Not 400. Not 4,000. 40,000.

Foreign funds are a serious problem but the bigger danger comes from the flow of foreign students & staff into US universities. Personnel is policy and at US universities more and more of that personnel is foreign. See my @DFIPolicy documenting this. dfipolicy.org/dangerous-rise…
For too long, billions of dollars in foreign funding have flowed into American higher education with little transparency, giving foreign adversaries opportunities to influence our schools.
@RepBaumgartner's H.R. 9602, Less Bureaucracy, Better Foreign Gift Transparency Act, transfers oversight to the Department of State—the agency best equipped to identify foreign influence and enforce the law.
Greater transparency. Stronger oversight. Better protection for America's colleges and students.🇺🇸

There's a common myth that schools are underfunded, but NYC spends $42,000 per pupil.
It's true that schools are failing and enrollment is declining, but the culprit isn't a lack of funding—it's mismanagement.
@dany_egorov discussed the issue with @DFIPolicy back in May:
City Journal@CityJournalJul 9United States

Last week, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin signed record-breaking education spending, amounting to 31% of the budget for fiscal year 2027.
But the schools are failing, and enrollment is declining.
More money won’t fix New York public schools' problems, @dany_egorov writes. It will only reward failure.

Great work @DFIPolicy bringing attention to civil rights violations happening here in red states.
Living in a very red Atlanta suburb (not Decatur!), I hear all the time "not in our schools" - look again parents. I wish it wasn't in our schools. Sadly it is.
Thankful that DFI is doing this work!

Administrators told girls who felt uncomfortable to use a unisex restroom, rather than telling a boy to use the boys' restroom.
