As the @councilofdc considers @ChmnMendelson proposed changes to the Fiscal Year 2027 Local Budget Act, including new funding for public charter schools, significant inequity remains.
As Ariel Johnson of @DC_Charters has emphasized, ensuring equitable funding across public school sectors allows schools to stay focused on serving students and meeting their needs.
Every #DC student deserves an equitable opportunity to thrive.

“This is not a charter school versus public school issue,” said Brandon Woods of the board of directors for KIPP DC, which runs about 20 charter schools in the city. “This is a fairness issue." #ClosetheGapDC nbcwashington.com/news/local…

A DC Scholars education happens inside AND outside the classroom. 🏛️ Yesterday, 7 of our Middle Schoolers went to the Wilson Building to advocate before next week's budget vote. Victoria, Zachery, Asa, Saniya, Rhailyne, Sabaya, and Na'Quan, we are so proud! 💙 #DCScholars

Too often we treat passing reforms as the finish line instead of making sure they actually reach classrooms consistently across schools and sectors. Excited to partner with @strongschoolsdc alongside educators across @dcpublicschools, @OSSEDC, & @DC_Charters on this work.

.@councilofdc is considering a budget that gives DCPS ~$96M outside the normal formula, leaving charter schools like ours ~$2,000 less per student. Our kids deserve the same resources. 💛

Our coalition members showed up last week at the #DC Council Hearing with a clear message:
Fully fund all DC public school students.
The #FY27 budget makes important investments - but the funding gap remains.

Students thrive when schools support their interests.
This is what it looks like when learning is engaging, relevant, and student-centered.
Every student deserves that opportunity.
