🚨 New preprint alert! 🚨 We uncover key aspects of how the #SARSCoV2 nucleocapsid protein self-assembles and undergoes LLPS—critical for viral behavior. Using #SAXS and #NMR, we reveal how disordered regions drive complex formation. Explore the details: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
As someone who works in protein chemistry and structure, I’m thrilled to see the 2024 #NobelPrize in Chemistry awarded to David Baker, Demis Hassabis & John Jumper. Their work is transforming the field. Congrats to all! #ProteinChemistry #NobelPrize2024
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Chemistry with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.”

Boy: Do not try and bend the protein. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Boy: There is no protein structure.
Neo: There is no protein structure?
Boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the protein that bends, it is only yourself.

We were incredibly disappointed with the lack of code or executable accompanying the publication of AF3 in @Nature . This contradicts scientific principles of the ability to evaluate, use, and build upon existing work. zenodo.org/records/11179894

No #DiaInternacionalDaMulher queria partilhar um artigo que escrevi há dias sobre a Ciência e as Cientistas em Portugal!
🎉 Exciting news! Our paper, "The Pathogen-Encoded Signaling Receptor Tir Exploits Host-Like Intrinsic Disorder for Infection" is officially published! @CommsBio,📚 Grateful for the collaboration and hard work of all involved. Read it here: doi.org/10.1038/s42003-024-0…
3/3 In eukaryotic cells, protein disorder is critical for signaling and regulation. Although intrinsically #disorderedproteins (IDPs) are a small fraction of typical bacterial proteomes, Tir helps us make the case that IDPs have a critical role at the host-bacteria interface.
2/3 Using various state-of-the-art biophysical methods (#SAXS, #NMR #microscopy), we show that Tir, a bacterial effector, exploits host-like disorder to rewire cellular processes via dimerization, lipid binding, and phosphorylation, revealing a versatile strategy for infection.
1/3 Have you ever wondered how pathogens hijack the host? 🦠 In our latest research, conducted in collaboration with @itqbnova, @LeibnizFMP, @NetBioinfoMRS, and @TheFrankelLab, we delve into the fascinating world of host-pathogen interactions.
