Today is a good day to figure out who's clueless about AI among the FinTwit accounts you follow. The market may well sell off on Monday, but the situation we're in today was perfectly predictable with a bare minimum of research on the subject and the fact that we're reaching these superintelligence stakes this fast is actually very bullish for long-term investors in the sector. $QQQ

We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. $NBIS CEO Arkady Volozh and CRO Marc Boroditsky just spoke at Goldman Sachs’ Technology Conference. Here are the main takeaways: 1) Demand keeps accelerating Nebius made it clear that AI infrastructure demand is still materially ahead of supply, and importantly, that visibility is extending further out. A few months ago, management was talking about roughly 18 months of strong demand visibility. Now Arkady says that has stretched to 24 months or potentially longer, with customers already asking for capacity in Q1 and Q2 2028. He also said customers are currently requesting tens of thousands of Vera Rubin GPUs. Marc reinforced the point by saying demand isn't merely above supply, it's actually growing faster than supply. 2) Nebius x Palantir explanation The underlying thesis is centered around enterprise data. Arkady’s view is that companies will increasingly want to run open-weight models on their own proprietary data, repeatedly improve those models inside their own domain, and retain control over the resulting data and intelligence rather than continuously feeding it back into external commercial models. Palantir already has the enterprise software layer and the tooling required to orchestrate those workflows. What it needed was the infrastructure underneath it. That's where Nebius comes in. “We provide the whole stack up to our Token Factory. They take it, add their tools on top of it, and their customer base. For us, it is an excellent channel to enterprises.” This potentially gives Nebius access to an enterprise customer base that would have taken considerably longer to penetrate organically. 3) Enterprise demand appears to be inflecting The Palantir deal is part of a broader trend. Marc said Nebius has seen a “significant uptick” in its pipeline with platform companies that themselves serve enterprise customers. Some of these companies are looking at Nebius as their first non-hyperscaler supplier. They're not only looking for training capacity, but a partner that can support training, post-training and inference across the full AI lifecycle. The customer progression is becoming increasingly clear: AI natives → larger AI natives → digital natives → enterprise platforms → enterprises themselves. Management still believes enterprise will represent the majority of the market opportunity. 4) xAI and Meta selling excess capacity Goldman asked what happens if companies like xAI and Meta build huge amounts of infrastructure for themselves and eventually start selling unused capacity into the market. Arkady’s answer was that this is mostly bare metal capacity, not a full AI cloud. Someone still needs to take that infrastructure, add the cloud and software layers, and distribute it to end customers. Nebius could potentially be one of those companies. “If they could put more capacity on the market, it’s good for the industry, it’s good for us. We could take it and repackage and resell it to the end users.” 5) The four landmark customers are already moving toward the next clusters The four large customer wins announced last quarter were not one-off capacity deals. Marc said these customers already have additional requirements and are discussing their next deployments with Nebius. In some cases they're asking for more GB200 capacity, while all four are already discussing Vera Rubin platform requirements. Nebius also has other similar large opportunities in the pipeline. Importantly, Marc reiterated that these wins weren't driven by price, but by the reliability and performance Nebius demonstrated during the POCs. 6) Older GPUs are holding up for a reason This is exactly what I’ve been emphasizing for a long time. Marc explained that older GPUs aren't simply staying busy because customers cannot get newer chips. Many workloads, including RAG infrastructure, text prediction and image generation, are simply better matched economically to older hardware, where customers already understand the TCO, reliability and performance profile. “We actually have a list of new customers that are looking for any of the older generation chips that come available.” That's precisely the dynamic I've been arguing for: the highest-end GPUs should increasingly migrate toward the most compute-intensive workloads, while older generations remain economically relevant for workloads where their performance is already more than sufficient. 7) The asset-light model is progressing The asset-light strategy is designed to attack what Arkady sees as Nebius’ two main constraints: how fast it can physically build capacity and how much of that build it can finance itself. The partners Nebius is talking to are typically electricity or data center companies that already have land, power and, in many cases, access to cheap financing, but lack the expertise to move higher up the AI infrastructure stack. Nebius can bring the data center know-how, racks, software stack and the customer demand to monetize that infrastructure. Management says it has a long list of companies interested in the model, with Arkady describing each line in their internal pipeline as a separate large project. Nebius is already working on several of them, with capacity expected to come online from 2027 onward.

We are partnering with Palantir to bring trusted AI cloud infrastructure to Palantir’s commercial customers. Palantir has named Nebius its preferred sovereign AI infrastructure partner. Nebius compute and inference endpoints will run inside the Palantir enterprise perimeter – giving customers control over their compute, data, and models. The partnership is based on a shared vision that open models, continually adapted using customers’ own data, can deliver better domain-specific intelligence while improving control and security. I’ve been at @nebiusai for two years. Today feels like one of those days we’ll look back on. When people look at AI infrastructure, they often reduce the story to one thing: GPUs. But what we’re building at Nebius is better understood through an equation: $/MW × MW activated × speed-to-revenue × funding efficiency + software leverage And in Q2, every part of that equation moved. 1. First: $/MW. Our 2026 base was around $12M in annual contract value per MW. - The deals signed in Q2 came in above $20M/MW. - Short-term capacity opportunities are now reaching $40–50M/MW. - Pricing on older gen GPUs increased by more than 30% vs Q1. - Our first Blackwell capacity auction cleared 15% above the highest price we had achieved before, and 20% above the existing pipeline. That’s what real pricing power looks like in a market where certainty, scale and speed matter. 2. Second: MW activated. We raised our 2026 contracted-power target from more than 4GW to 5GW, and expect to deploy more than 1GW of new capacity annually starting in 2027. But contracted power isn’t live compute. Between the two sit permitting, construction, energy, cooling, networking, GPUs, orchestration, testing and customer onboarding. The unglamorous (and brutally difficult lol) work required to turn land and electrons into reliable production infrastructure. After two years at Nebius, I’ve come to believe that this conversion engine is one of the real moats. 3. Third: speed-to-revenue. -> Q2 revenue reached $582M: +454% YoY and +46% QoQ. the ai cloud rev reached $575 M. ARR reached 3B$ (adjusted EBITDA margin reached 50%) And this was before most of our planned 2026 capacity comes online in the second half. Demand is no longer only a pipeline story. - Total contract value won in Q2 grew nearly 4× QoQ. TCV from new customers more than 9×'d - four landmark agreements averaged more than $1B each (with Reflection, Cohere, a US AI neolab and a major US quant firm) These weren’t passive inbound wins. They took competitive processes, technical POCs and trust earned across multiple engagement cycles. Customers chose scale, performance, reliability, technical support and the ability to grow with us. This is becoming a strategic-partner business, not a GPU-rental business. 4. Fourth: funding efficiency. Roughly 70% of Q2 deals included customer prepayments. Across the four landmark agreements, those prepayments cover 50–60% of the associated capex. Expected payback fell to 1 year and 10 months, compared with 2–3 years historically. Add more than $9B of expected customer prepayments in 2026 and our first ~$775M asset-backed facility at SOFR +250bps, and the flywheel becomes: Signed demand → prepayments → infrastructure → contracted cash flows → cheaper financing → more infrastructure. That is a long way from “build it and hope.” But let’s be precise: this remains infrastructure. Q2 capex was approximately 5.7B$. Converting GW into production compute requires enormous capital and near flawless execution. The breakthrough isn’t that the business suddenly became capital-light. It’s that more of the build is becoming contracted, prepaid and financeable. 5. And then comes the final part: software leverage. @nebiustf production inference workloads more than tripled in Q2. Aether 3.6 strengthened the core cloud platform. @tavilyai brings the real time information agents need. Echo creates a natural language interface for operating infrastructure. @Eigen_AI_Labs and @clarifai deepen our inference capabilities. This part is particularly personal for me because much of my own work sits close to Token Factory. The opportunity isn’t simply selling GPU hours, it’s serving the complete AI lifecycle: Training → post-training → inference → grounding → agents. Training creates inference demand. Inference creates demand for tuning, evaluation and optimisation. Agents multiply model calls and require reliable access to real-time information. A platform that serves that entire loop can improve customer outcomes, infrastructure utilization and economics simultaneously. So the complete equation is: Higher $/MW × more MW activated × faster conversion into revenue × smarter funding + more software per unit of compute. Each term reinforces the others. And that’s why today’s announcement is so meaningful. Two years ago, much of this existed as ambition, architecture and an extraordinary group of people willing to build from first principles. Today: - $3B ARR. 50% AI-cloud adjusted EBITDA margin - More than $40B in customer commitments. - A 5GW contracted-power pipeline. Still early, but very real. I’m incredibly proud of what this team has built, and even more excited by what’s ahead. The Nebius story isn’t “more GPUs.” It’s turning power into compute, compute into intelligence, and intelligence into products people use every day. Strategy → execution → compounding. We’re just getting started. $NBIS Disclosure: I work at Nebius. This post is based exclusively on today's public earnings materials and public earnings call. Rocket Lab Neutron AIC update — the Hungry Hippo lift. Photos and full timelapse video. Here is how the operation went down. The Hungry Hippo was sitting on its red support stands inside Building 01. The team slid the blue transport trailer underneath it, lifted it off the stands, backed it out to the lift position, set it back down on the same stands outside, then pulled the trailer out to make room for the cranes. Then nearly six hours of rigging, harnesses attached to the open base, boom lifts positioned on both sides, every connection point checked. All that for a lift that took about 30 minutes, running right through sunset. To my knowledge building 01 does not have crane infrastructure for a vertical lift of this scale, so this appears to be the first time the Hungry Hippo has been stood up vertically at Wallops. Last time it was vertical was in New Zealand. Hopefully the next lift puts it on the interstage. Congratulations to @RocketLab and the lift crew. Full timelapse (30x) below. @NASASpaceflight
