Ever sit back and ask yourself, ‘what kind of impact am I having on my friends? My team? My family?’ If the answer isn’t what you’d expect from someone else, change it. Your impact is driven by your decisions. Make a positive impact.

Proof that specialty retail marketing works!!
Running is supposed to be one of the cheapest sports in the world. Anyway, I decided to calculate how much it cost me to run the Chicago Marathon. Including the full retail value of EVERYTHING I was wearing on race day. RACE DAY GEAR Garmin watch: $1,199.99 Oakley Meta Vanguards: $499 SOAR racing singlet: $295 ASICS racing shoes: $269.99 Bandit half tights: $125 Handheld bottle: $30 Running socks: $18 RACE DAY FUELING 7 SiS gels: $18.69 Maurten Bicarb: $17.50 2 LMNT packets: $3 Electrolyte drink mix: $2 RACE WEEKEND Flights for 2: $1,593.60 Airbnb (3 nights): $970.25 Marathon entry: $266 Race insurance: $42.56 Uber/Lyft: $195.45 Public transit: $7.50 3-day carb load (estimated): $100 MarathonFoto: $94.95 TOTAL OF EVERYTHING LISTED: $5,748.48 You can judge me for the $1,200 watch, but I’ll defend the $94.95 race photos every single time. Running is free, though.

Things you learn in Texas: 1. The guy in the F-150 is worth a lot more than the dude in a Mercedes. 2. The small business owner from a state school is smarter than the majority of Ivy League grads. 3. There’s more racism in Connecticut country clubs than in rural honky-tonks. 4. Rednecks are more honorable than investment bankers. 5. The man who looks like he can’t afford the tab could buy the building. 6. They don’t ask for a deck before the meeting. 7. Prep school is where they send the problem kids. 8. If he’s wearing dusty boots, a 2XL Magellan shirt, a gold Rolex, and has a bulletproof case on his iPhone 12, you’ve already lost the negotiation. 9. “How’s business?” is a real question. “What do you do?” is a New York question. 10. Tips are bigger and egos are smaller. 11. A handshake still closes deals that a term sheet would kill. 12. The wealth is in real estate, oil, or a company nobody in Manhattan has ever heard of. 13. Your wife or daughter will never struggle finding help to change a tire. 14. Nobody asks where you went to college. 15. A weekend invitation to their ranch makes you part of the family.

A good hunt ought to leave you with a story to tell and something for the freezer. Steve’s Nebraska whitetail hunt is now live on MeatEater YouTube.

We have a little inside joke on my track and cross-country teams. I asked them “what color is the sky?” They’ll reply “purple” because I said it’s purple. This morning one of my boys posted this and said “see guys, Coach is right”

Wanna watch your kids have the most picture perfect post runs strides? Have a light rain fall during practice!!

Was gifted a tremendous opportunity last night to harvest this beautiful axis buck while at the Reserve Ranch in La Pryor. 185 yds, shooting a suppressed 300 Win Mag. As the boys say, “he didn’t go 20!” A good start to filling the freezer with wild game this year!!

~2% of high school athletes earn college athletic scholarships. Most are partial. That's straight from the NCAA. If I'm a parent of an athlete: is my son or daughter not the top 2% at my school. Not the top 2% in my state. Are they top 2% in the country? If the answer is no, then You don't need to pay $500 to Rivals or any other sham business for 'visibility'. Your kid doesn't have a visibility problem. They aren't good enough. Find a different way to pay for school than sports. Get good grades, test well, get academic scholarships.
Club sports are not a guarantee to getting a college scholarship. Do not bet your future on a $10,000 non-renewable stipend. Club sports are not a guarantee to playing your sport in college, period. The research is painfully clear and published by the NCAA. It's these two links. The first one is "Did NCAA Student-Athletes Compete on High School or Club Teams?" ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/res… Women's gymnastics or men's ice hockey are the top two sports by percentage that had 'Club Team Only' athletes represented in the NCAA. Why? ... did your high school team have a state affiliated Ice Hockey or Gymnastics team? Yeah me neither. The second link is one I've referenced MANY times in the past. It's the "Estimated probability of competing in college athletics" ncaa.org/student-athletes/pr… This is a table that should be burned into the brain's of every high school athlete that wants to play in college. Because you need to understand that the chance of you doing so is winning the lottery. The overall % for most sports is less than 5%. This isn't to dissuade you from trying. It's a financial reality check. Just because college coaches watch another thousand kids play at a weekend tournament doesn't mean they are there to see you. Playing in another showcase, for another club team, is not the path to afford college. I earned over $80,000 in scholarships to attend Trine University. Zero of that was athletic. All of it was academic. Because DIII has no athletic scholarships. Period. Even then, I had a 2% probability of running Track and Field at Trine. So before you think I need to put all my chips on my next club season to make it to college...stop. Get good grades first.
