Chalmers is recruiting 11 ... that's right 11 assistant professors. The packages are sweet, the university fantastic, students inspiring and the city is amazing. Also...then we can work together! #wearechalmers @chalmersuniv @ChalmersEnergy direc.to/hXNM

COP26 has been full of future warming numbers – 2.7C, 2.4C, 1.8C, etc – with new estimates released daily. In a new @CarbonBrief analysis, @piersforster and I take a deep dive into climate outcomes – what they mean and how seriously we should take them carbonbrief.org/analysis-do-… 1/

Very similar finding to our @IEA 1.8C of warming with full implementations of pledges currently on the table. Warning: the gap to a 1.5C compatible trajectory is still very large to 2030 - we find current pledges lead to 32Gt of energy CO2, instead of 21Gt in Net Zero by 2050.
1/ #COP26 NEW BRIEFING: Making sense of 1.8C, 1.9C and 2.7C. We projected that new NDCs and long-term targets, IF adequately supported and implemented, could limit peak warming to 1.9C & @IEA also put forward 1.8C. Yet, what about 2.7C? Briefing here: climate-resource.com/tools/n…

The temperature figures I used will nodoubt change in the future (hopefully for the better), but I based them on the latest available today - shout-out to @ClimateRsrc for their excellent work in this area. Again, any errors/omissions are my own. xitter.cf/ClimateRsrc/status/145…
BREAKING #COP26 2.7C: warming of unconditional, least ambitious NDC 2030 range. 2.2C: Net-zero targets a few weeks ago shave off 0.5C (UNEP Gap report). 1.9C: A dozen new NDCs and INDIA's pledge, *IF* implemented and sufficiently supported Briefing: climate-resource.com/tools/n…

(3/3) 2.7C (or slightly less) is still a solid estimate, if we only consider what is more certain: unconditional NDCs up to 2030, no long-term targets ... hence: real debate should be about how to bring 2030 emissions down and realise conditional NDCs (e.g. ZAF coal phase out)

(2/3) **IF** conditional NDCs + India + methane pledge (beware double counting... ) implemented: 1.8C end-of-century is solid best-estimate. Our own estimate (w/o methane pledge) ends up at ~1.8C (1.3-2.7C) in that case by end of century, 1.9C at peak climate-resource.com/tools/n…

Agree with @TofMcGlade. We can have debate on how best to bring about increased ambition for 2030 and implementation of not-yet-policy-underpinned long-term targets. But that's not a "climate scientist" versus XYZ debate. (1/3)

NEW ANALYSIS: Global temps are now projected to peak at 1.9°C this century. “It is a very credible analysis but a lot of things would have to go right and it is still a long way from the goal of keeping 1.5 alive" - Dr Simon Bradshaw. @ClimateRsrc smh.com.au/environment/clima…
