🇨🇦📈📉 Fleet emissions intensity improvements are increasingly correlated with EV sales—when sales go up, emissions intensity goes down—but more stringent standards are needed to achieve Canada's stated EV adoption goals, according to @ClimateInstit.👇440megatonnes.ca/insight/ele…

Slightly wonky new post on minimum prices in carbon markets the Alberta-Canada MOU from @enviroeconomics and me. The *mechanism* for a establishing a price floors matter, irrespective of the level.
The Canada-Alberta MOU on carbon pricing promised a fix for Alberta’s carbon market: too many carbon credits meant low prices were undermining investment to reduce emissions. But the proposed solution makes this problem worse. Read more from @dalebeugin climateinstitute.ca/not-all-…

In 2020, EVs made up just 4% of all car sales globally.
Their share rose to 25% in 2025 – and is set to grow close to 30% this year.
And by 2035, even without any new policy announcements, EVs could account for about half of global car sales 👉 iea.li/4tQLcEF

By 2035, electric cars could account for about half of global car sales, even without any new policy announcements
This would mean as many as 510 million EVs on the road (excluding 2- & 3-wheelers) – up from nearly 80 million today

I really, really enjoyed recording this episode of @TheHerleBurly with the incomparable David Herle. We covered *a lot* of ground in an hour. See what you think!
🗣️🎙️ Taking Climate Change Seriously with Michael Liebreich
Greetings, you curiouser and curiouser Herle Burly-ites. A fellow podcaster on the show today. But leaving his credentials there would be selling our guest very short indeed.
@MLiebreich is here!
He’s an acclaimed thought leader on clean energy, mobility, technology, climate, sustainability and finance. The CEO of Liebreich Associates and co-managing partner of EcoPragma Capital, which focuses on companies committed to the net-zero transition. Michael’s former roles include membership in the UK’s Taskforce on Energy Efficiency, advisor to the UK Board of Trade, as well as advisor to the UN on Sustainable Energy for All. He’s addressed the UN General Assembly.
His very own podcast is called “Cleaning Up” where he hosts in-depth conversations with leaders in climate change and its solutions. Guests have included Tony Blair, Prince Albert of Monaco ... and some fellow named Mark Carney.
So today, I’m talking with Michael about clean energy and the energy transition. Lessons learned from efforts until this point. I want to know how clean electrification moves forward and accelerates as political interest in western democracies wanes. And lastly, what should Canada’s role in all of this be?
