Great to see Nova Scotia’s massive Wind West project take another step ahead with $100M from the federal government, as part of the Atlantic Energy Strategy.

Atlantic Canada has an enormous opportunity to generate nationally significant amounts of clean energy with onshore and offshore wind power.

The latest data shows the Canada-Alberta MOU agreement didn’t fix the problems with industrial carbon markets in the province.
Carbon credit prices are still trading at rock-bottom prices—too low to incentivize big investments in emissions reductions.🧵

On top of that, many smaller emitters that previously opted into the market to avoid the consumer fuel charge have exited the system.
It means fewer emissions are now covered by a carbon price.

Today’s announcement of federal funds to upgrade Canadian homes gives a modest boost to electrify the buildings sector and improve affordability and energy security. That’s an important step forward, but more will be needed to increase those benefits.

NEW: Our latest early estimate of Canada’s national emissions shows higher gas use drove up emissions in 2025. But clean electrification can help steer Canada back toward net zero.

The EU is a global pacesetter on clean energy and decarbonization. By seeking closer economic ties, Canada can also follow the lead of its European allies on meeting its climate goals.
@rjcsmith outlines the critical lessons for Canada ⬇️

Seeking closer ties with the European Union gives Canada the opportunity to focus more squarely on the future, not the past.

It’s been a week of enlightening conversations at #AdaptationCanada2026. It was our pleasure to support this year’s conference. Thank you to everyone who took the time to say hello or participate in one of our sessions!
Climate damages are hitting everyone’s wallets, not just those directly affected by climate events. As this Globe and Mail article reports, home insurance costs rose about 45% nationally between Dec 2019 and the end of 2025 (~ 2x general inflation).

Climate damages are costing Canada’s economy and making life less affordable, but we can limit the damages. For every $1 spent on adaptation measures today, $13-$15 will be returned in years ahead in direct and indirect benefits.

Canada’s announcement that it will develop a framework to guide how it participates in global carbon markets is good news for Canadian clean tech exports and competitiveness. It aligns with our work on climate finance and trade diversification.⬇️🧵
climateinstitute.ca/using-cl…
The new framework could also provide a two-way street for investment if advanced clean projects based in Canada are eligible to participate in global carbon markets. Canada has an advantage in areas like carbon removal technologies and this presents new avenues for investment.
We look forward to participating in upcoming consultations to ensure the framework supports clean growth sectors at home, bolsters economic resilience, and drives climate action abroad.
