i don't think "therapy speak" actually comes from therapy tho. it comes from online. i've literally never had a therapist use words like "toxic" and "trauma dumping" in a session lol

A brilliant article by ⁦@Gem_Hill⁩ on mental health awareness week/months and why bite size bits of advice usually sucks And imo this extends to most 2 hour mental health courses offered by employers open.substack.com/pub/selfca…

"But it made you strong." It didn't though. It made them learn everything they could to try and make sure it stopped happening and never happened again. And many times that was not enough. That isn't strength. It's survival mode and it's really costly short and long-term.

This week's free #Substack is about when you sit with your feelings...and it's fine? There's nothing you need to do, no significant learning, and how that in and of itself is important. There's also an invite to the SCB discord community! Sign up here: selfcarebackpack.substack.co…

But in that Maddie Ziegler not being autistic wasn't what made that movie bad. It was someone trying to tell that story without any connection to the community and therefore any sense of history or what we've generally come to regard as hurtful storytelling.

i hate this thing y’all do where u take patterns of behavior that are often rooted in trauma and call them manipulative. u don’t manipulate people unconsciously without intention. that’s just not how that works.
i was watching a tiktok that explains people pleasing is manipulative because if you arent confrontational/honest you cant develop deep relationships cause its rooted in dishonesty on your end. thats thought is really pushing me to be more honest even if its uncomfortable.

My own personal bugbear here is the 'Toxic Positivity' phenomenon cosmicshambles.com/words/blo… The idea that you can 'choose' to be happy, to have good wellbeing? It's a short leap from there to blaming people for their own #mentalhealth problems. Because they chose 'wrongly' /12

I have some of my encouragement cards on my wall. I also have some in my bag that I carry around with me. Every one of these messages is one I've given myself. You can buy these over on the SCB site buff.ly/3NrK0pO

How does meditation affect your brain? This is, indeed, a big question. But it's #BrainAwarenessWeek, so let's have a go regardless /1

Good morning! How does meditation affect my brain? Probably a big question 😊EM

I GUESS my unpopular opinion is that mental health is happening in your BRAIN, which is a part of your body. If your BRAIN needs a break, your body needs a break. Prioritizing your mental health is prioritizing your body. Your BRAIN IS A BODY PART.

Meditation making stuff worse is actually pretty common bc it’s currently the darling of the biopsychosocial gaslighters & is prescribed to everyone regardless of if it’s appropriate bc of absurd beliefs abt non-medication therapies being harmless
Strange question probably, but has anyone found that meditation actually *worsens* their symptoms? I guess this might be happening to me because intense focus always flares my neuro symptoms, even if that focus is on my breath, or on trying hard not to think about anything.
