Yesterday 8 of us removed 93 bags of rubbish and 61 bags’ worth of large items from a section of the #GrandUnionCanal towpath in Southall & adjacent path. This is a bit much and we feel should not be left to volunteers. @deirdrecostigan we’d love to discuss preventative action!

Like many other litter pickers we have added bin cleaning (vape sticker and graffiti removal) to our range of activities.

Our members don’t just pick up rubbish. Just look at what one volunteer has gone today. Huge thanks to Mathan. We think he’s on to something….

Litter picking is not middle aged
Replying to @Nettleshippy
Is litter-picking middle-aged? If so, I did that with @CanLager. Apart from that, positively sprightly with a cocktail bar, a final west end theatre performance and a birthday party all in one evening…

Yes, and what a successful couple of hours. This is what our little team achieved. Thanks to all who helped.

We were delighted to be joined by @NortholtDom this morning. We are truly excited to hear about ideas to get rubbish out of Ealing’s open spaces.
Delighted to join @CanLager in Northolt Mandeville today for @EalingCouncil Climate Week

Ealing Parks Foundation @EalingParks has come out strongly against plans for a temporary 1,200-seat Troubadour theatre in Walpole Park. The foundation says the scheme was developed “without any prior community engagement” and says the theatre would be better located on a brownfield site. A Troubadour site plan seen by EALING NEWS is dated April 2024 – more than two years before the plans were made public. ealing.news/arts-culture/bac…

This is really good news.
Going, going, gone….! While the skylarks sing, the era of the derelict buildings on @WarrenFarmNR comes to a crunching end. We’re looking forward to the rewilded brownfield site becoming a buffer zone with plenty of new species. Sound up!

Something that has surprised me with all the @EnvAgency nonsense is how the outcry against the EA’s actions has come from across the political spectrum. It doesn’t feel like much can unite the left & the right any more, but it turns out that threatening volunteer river guardians with prosecution for caring for a river that the EA has left to rot (whilst they let illegal sewage go unpunished) is apparently just such an issue. The Telegraph have done quite a detailed & fair right up of the whole issue. Even better, when I was showing them around and having photos taken by the Aldersbrook, I spotted a shoal of fish fry in the river for the first time. It’s wonderful that life is returning to the brook already & shows the stupidity of the EA’s lies that we were somehow damaging the environment by restoring the brook. Seeing the positive effects already gives me even more strength not to back down; the EA is welcome to restore the rest of the brook with me & the other volunteers but I will defy them & keep restoring the river if they try & block or hinder us.
For the past three months, @paulpowlesland has been a marked man – pursued by anonymous officials at England’s Environment Agency for the unlikely crime of cleaning a river without a licence Powlesland tells @mattotele that, if they were able to put him in prison, he would serve his sentence, "then I would come out and I would do exactly the same thing again" ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Always a pleasure to attend our monthly cleanup at @GroveFarmEaling
From awards to action with #LitterLegends @LAGERCan 💚 Great morning with #FriendsOfGroveFarm tackling a fly‑tip by the tube line. Had to leave a huge new dump for the council to clear. Finished with a cuppa at Brokengate Café 💚 Many thanks. #CommunityCleanup

Lazy and careless. We are lucky that @EalingCouncil Grounds Maintenance teams collect obvious rubbish before mowing - many thanks to them. @NortholtDom
That time of year @cleanupbritain local authorities blindly shred #litter when grass cutting. Setting a bad example, not compliant with cleanliness standards of the code of practice for litter & refuse & conveys "we accept litter here". #A38 #Slimbridge #Gloucestershire #trashed

Absolutely correct. We can help, but adequate binfrastructure needs to be provided by @EalingCouncil. A deposit on pizza boxes sold by Putt in the Park is an excellent idea. I suggest £1. Thanks @CentrAct1 for your hard work here and by the railway bridge today.
Acton Park on a sunny Saturday needs more, bigger bins- @EalingCouncil. It’s clear that @CanLager volunteers, however keen, can’t deal with this level of rubbish. Also @PuttinthePark needs to take responsibility for its pizza boxes: every bin full of them. Deposit system needed?
