📢 Your Weekly @Algorand Ecosystem Roundup 📢
Follow this 🧵 for a coverage of @AlgoFoundation's ecosystem news in the week of October 18th, 2026!
🧵 1/

Replying to @Algo_Surf
@algo_surf updated, featuring information that is usually not captured by indexers. First, we have metrics like TPS and fees over time. Drag over the chart to zoom in, or explore any time slice from the presets and Period dropdown. You can get to the exact blocks by clicking block bars.
It is fun to click around and find TPS spikes - here are some TPS examples from my+@Urthoo's May 2024 ALGO+USDC load tests:
algo.surf/tps?range=2024-05&…
algo.surf/tps?range=2024-05&…
This is powered by surf-indexer, a new (unofficial) indexer that supplements data left out by the official one. It uses DuckDB and currently takes up just 750MB for the Mainnet data set. It is pretty fast at what it does, currently being served live (no cache) from a potato VPS and a laptop. You can see code and features here: github.com/d13co/surf-indexe…
There's a bunch of other features for you to discover around accounts. One of my favorites is the relationship between multisig accounts and sub-signers. Normally this relationship is only discoverable one-way (from multisig to sub-signer)
Now, for each account, you can see which multisigs they are a part of, as well as whether they have ever signed or not (as listing sub-signers is permissionless, so if an account hasn't signed for a multisig, they may not have been aware that they were part of it)
algo.surf/account/DTHIRTEENN…
There's also semi-hidden work on logic sigs, pending a bit of polish and labeling💅
Finally a topical one: there's a Consensus Upgrades page, which lists all consensus upgrades that have taken place. algo.surf/upgrades
Which brings me nicely to: Upgrade your nodes, algod 5.0.4 is out with a new consensus release.
The emerging machine-to-machine (M2M) economy is exposing a fundamental limitation in our financial plumbing:traditional banking rails were designed for human biological rhythms and bureaucratic overhead, not autonomous code.
If users and builders do not understand the mechanics of post-quantum security, account abstraction, and autonomous agent delegation, they will inevitably default back to centralized custodians and fragile legacy habits. Achieving durable adoption requires:
Demystifying Cryptographic Hygiene: Educating developers and organizations on why migrating away from legacy elliptic curves is urgent, and how to manage post-quantum key pairs without prohibitive operational friction.
Mastering Agentic Governance: Training builders to implement precise policy bounds, such as time-locks, multisig overrides, and transaction limits via ARC-58, so that autonomous agents cannot drain treasuries or execute unvetted logic.
Fostering a Competent User Base: Shifting the narrative away from speculative metrics toward functional literacy. True adoption is measured by the volume of people who can confidently audit their automated systems, understand their cryptographic exposure, and participate in decentralized governance.
Autonomous agents will not wait for legacy finance to catch up, nor can they afford to build on cryptographic quicksand. As high-speed AI commerce collides with the timeline of quantum computing, the networks that succeed will not only be those with the fastest algorithms, but those backed by an educated, capable community equipped to put that security into daily practice.

Japan TODAY: @Algorand’s stablecoin market capitalization has surged nearly 25% in a week, reaching $97.07 million, according to DefiLlama data.
The network is now approaching the $100 million milestone, a level reached by only 26 other blockchain networks, putting algorand:native’s ecosystem growth in focus.
If the momentum continues, Algorand could potentially surpass the stablecoin market caps of @SonicLabs and @NEARProtocol, signaling further expansion in its stablecoin sector.

On the most aggressive timelines, quantum computers could crack old Bitcoin wallets within this cycle. Only two blockchains running today are built to be quantum-resistant: Quantus and Algorand. A big story with so few coins is what makes this narrative asymmetric.
Why Algorand payments don’t wait for extra blocks
On Bitcoin, two miners can find a block at the same time, and the chain briefly splits in two, which is called a fork. Payments on the dropped side are undone, so waiting six blocks, about an hour, is the common rule before a payment counts as settled.
@Algorand is built to stop those splits. Each new block goes to a vote, with voters picked at random from the algorand:native holders who help run the network. A block needs more than two-thirds of the votes to pass.
Because the chain does not split, a transaction is final the moment it lands in a block. Blocks arrive roughly every 2.8 seconds.
The design has a cost in a crisis. If the network splits or too many voters act dishonestly, Algorand stops producing blocks, and payments wait until enough honest voters can reach each other again to restart.
