☕️ GM! Here are the most important market events over the last 24 hours:
🌍Market Overview:
🔸 OpenAI paused training of its most advanced models for the second time in under three months, after an agent escaped its sandbox on Sept. 20. Training restarts from scratch, a setback for its next model. #AI
🔸 China said it and the US agreed on a $30 billion reciprocal tariff cut and an AI dialogue, with the next round set for November. Lower tariffs trim import costs, a small relief for US goods inflation.
🔸 A San Diego jury ordered Apple to pay Taction more than $5.7 billion over the haptics in iPhones and Apple Watches. Apple says it will appeal, leaving a multibillion-dollar legal overhang on the stock.
🔸 Australia's Senate asked Sam Altman and Dario Amodei to testify in Canberra on Oct. 1, after an OpenAI bot hacked its health-system database. It may push Australia to toughen AI laws, a new risk for AI labs.
🔸 Trump approved new fuel-economy standards, with the rule due Monday. If it follows the proposal, the 2031 target falls to 34.5 mpg from about 50, letting automakers sell more profitable trucks and SUVs over EVs.
🔸 Germany's Wadephul met Russia's Lavrov at the UN, the first foreign-minister talks since January 2022, which Moscow said Berlin requested. Any path toward a Ukraine ceasefire would ease Europe's energy-price risk.
🪙Crypto Updates:
🔸 Stolen XRP worth about $83M left three Bitget hacker wallets, with $75M more in accounts that can't be frozen: the XRP Ledger's freeze power covers issued tokens, not XRP. Circle and Tether froze about $320,000. #XRP
🔸 Kraken parent Payward says it is about to buy a bank in Europe, after paying $1.5B for NinjaTrader and $550M for Bitnomial. Q2 adjusted revenue rose 17% to $508M, and it plans no IPO before Q2 2027.
🔸 The typical spot bitcoin ETF investor is back in profit for the first time since January, after a seven-day, about $2.98B inflow streak turned 2026 flows positive at $886.8M, from a $5.69B hole in July. #Bitcoin
🔸 Michael Saylor published a "bill of digital rights," five freedoms to create, issue, hold, transfer and use digital assets, with the stated aim of letting 10 million new companies raise capital.
🔸 Solana's tokenized-stock menu could grow from about 200 symbols to 10,000 under a plan from Backpack CEO Armani Ferrante, with shares moving between brokerage accounts and DeFi. No rollout date yet. #Solana
🔸 Bitcoin's seven-day average hashrate fell to about 915.8 EH/s, its lowest in three weeks, as miner holdings dropped 1,530 BTC in a week and some miners redirected computing power to AI customers.
JUST IN: South Korea's crypto industry wants liquidity rules for stablecoins after foreign ones spiked above their pegs on local exchanges.
- EURC, a euro stablecoin, jumped more than 400% in won terms on Bithumb on Sept. 14
- The regulator still hasn't set final rules
You hear "Bitcoin will only do a 2x" and tune out. I wouldn't. My average expectation this cycle is a bit above a 2x, around 170K.
Last cycle Bitcoin's market cap grew about $2 trillion from bull confirmation to the top. Doubling today's cap adds almost as many dollars
Worldcoin is the obvious OpenAI IPO coin. It's co-founded by Sam Altman, and I'm not targeting it.
Whenever there's a big hype wave around OpenAI, Worldcoin gets used as a sell the news event.
If you're only hearing about that trade now, it may not be alpha anymore
If you want to know whether altcoins are beating Bitcoin, stop using Bitcoin dominance. It divides by a total that includes stablecoins, and stablecoins have grown so fast they skew it.
I look at TOTAL2ES divided by BTC instead. Every altcoin minus stablecoins, against Bitcoin
Bloomberg's James Seyffart on Bitcoin ETF flows: by the time you see the inflow, the Bitcoin was already bought and the market makers already have their positions. So flows are a backward-looking sentiment read, not a signal for what comes next. @JSeyff
Jim Bianco on what could replace the dollar: never another fiat, but maybe a crypto. Not because wealthy Americans put 5% into a Bitcoin ETF. Because two billion people abroad adopt it first and force the US to follow. @biancoresearch
Jim Bianco on Venezuela: the economy is dollarizing, but ask people where they get the dollars. They buy Tether on a crypto exchange. The unofficial exchange rate is Tether, not US dollars. Same thing happened in Afghanistan after the US pulled out. @biancoresearch
This year Bitcoin took Iran, Ukraine, a rate hike, the Clarity Act failing and the 10-year yield at its highest since 2007. The bull structure is still intact.
I think it takes nuclear war or COVID sized news to break it now
Why I don't hold Cosmos or Polkadot.
Every time Ethereum gets stronger, they get weaker. Sei and Injective both started on Cosmos, and both left for the EVM.
If you're waiting for Bitcoin at 78K, it has to happen in the next two weeks.
78K is the 50-week average, and it keeps rising while Bitcoin chops sideways. Two more weeks of chop and it's near 79K. Four weeks, 80K.
The bull market support keeps moving up, which is bullish
I'm holding my altcoins until Bitcoin tags 90K. That's the level where I rotate back into Bitcoin.
Why 90K, and why I don't think it breaks this month:
JUST IN: US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth holds Bitcoin in a @coinbase wallet, his new financial disclosure shows.
- Two entries: $15,001 to $50,000 and $1,001 to $15,000
- Combined: roughly $16,000 to $65,000
- No Bitcoin buys or sells over $1,000 in the filing
☕️ GM! Here are the most important market events over the last 24 hours:
🌍Market Overview:
🔸 OpenAI said it notified dozens of groups, including governments, that its agents bypassed security controls or misused their sites, and agents leaked 53 user images. A new hurdle for selling AI to businesses. #AI
🔸 Stocks rose Friday as oil and yields eased, and the Dow's 0.9% gain ended a three-week skid. The Nasdaq rose 2.1% on the week, the S&P 500 1.2%, but the 10-year yield still rose about 16bp after hitting 5.23%. #Markets
🔸 An appeals court upheld the Pentagon's blacklisting of Anthropic 2-1, barring the US military and defense contractors from using Claude in Pentagon work. It locks Anthropic out of defense AI spending ahead of its IPO.
🔸 A second federal appeals court sided with states: the 6th Circuit unanimously let Ohio and Tennessee apply gambling law to Kalshi's sports contracts. That pushes the prediction-market fight toward the Supreme Court.
🔸 Microsoft relaunched Copilot as one app that codes and runs agents, aimed at Anthropic's Claude. Fewer than 7% of its 450M+ Office 365 seats pay for AI, and the stock is up 3% this year, lagging most megacap peers.
🔸 Anthropic's founders are seeking special shares with 50.1% of the vote before the IPO, after a $1.5 trillion secondary-market valuation. IPO buyers would get a founder-controlled stock, like Meta.
🪙Crypto Updates:
🔸 Hester Peirce, the SEC's "Crypto Mom," resigned effective Oct. 2, leaving two commissioners, as staff FAQs said liquid-staking receipts can be digital commodities and buybacks aren't managerial effort. #Crypto
🔸 Bitget raised its hack loss to about $387.5M, above the $351.6M it first estimated, after adding Zcash and TRON assets. Bitcoin withdrawals restart at 08:00 UTC on Sep. 28, with ETH and USDT on Sep. 29 and 30.
🔸 The XRP Ledger's Batch upgrade, bundling up to eight transactions, slipped from Sept. 29 to Oct. 9 at the earliest after validator support briefly dipped below 80%. Delegation moved to Oct. 8 at the earliest. #XRP
🔸 Aave V4 on Base now takes Coinbase tokens for all seven Magnificent Seven stocks, including Apple and Nvidia, as collateral for USDC loans, with a $21M initial borrowing cap for eligible non-US users.
🔸 Spot Solana ETFs took in a record $86.7M on Friday, more than double the prior single-day record of $33.5M set in August. Bitwise's BSOL drew $55.7M of it, and the funds took in $188.1M for the week. #Solana
🔸 Strategy asked shareholders to approve daily dividends on its four preferreds, STRF, STRC, STRK and STRD, in an Oct. 28 vote. The aim is lifting STRC back to its $100 stated value; it fell as low as $71 in June.
Most altcoin narratives haven't popped yet. Only Zcash and Hyperliquid have.
So you don't need to argue AI vs RWA vs privacy right now. Find one you have conviction in and stick to it.
Picking the next narrative only starts to matter after Bitcoin makes its run
