I like how the assault on Brecourt Manor (1944) - basically a company level assault on an artillery battery - has been studied so much.
It's the "textbook" example of an infantry assault.

Purple Haze is our epic, narrative-driven game about leading a squad of Marines in Vietnam.
The "Force Recon: Stingray" expansion for Purple Haze is now available.
Lead a small yet heavily armed Marine team on a daring Stingray patrol, search for enemy units and eliminate them with extreme prejudice. Will you be cautious, trying to wriggle your way around the jungle to find the best moment to strike at the unsuspecting enemy, or will you go in hard and fast, hoping your artillery will do most of the job for you?

The best games tell a story.
One of our latest games leans into this.
Dust in the Wind is a narrative-driven Wild West adventure game where 1 to 4 players lead a posse of cowboys and gunslingers through an epic tale where every decision matters.
It is based partially on the mechanics of Purple Haze - our popular squad level Vietnam War narrative-driven wargame.
This one is sure to sell out very quickly upon release.

For those who have already read Sapiens, Homo Deus or Nexus, or simply for anyone passionate about AI or trying to gain a broader perspective on where it is taking us, here’s a very enlightening interview with Yuval Noah Harari.
Definitely worth watching.

It's the penultimate day of the 63-day Warsaw Uprising in 1944; many of the last holdouts fight to their last breath. Some 200,000 Polish civilians and 15,000 resistance fighters lie dead.

Dziękuję wszystkim osobom, które poświęciły swój cenny czas na zagranie w Steel Wolverines.
Poprawki wkrótce (mouse scroll mapy jest najbardziej pożądany).
I spent five hours playing this new wargame, and it felt like a modern-day scenario, like some of the videos I’ve seen from the Russo-Ukrainian war. They even model cope cages. Bravo @TboneWargames
The drones and unmanned vehicles feel right; I used them for quick reconnaissance, then pulled them back. On another run, I sent both FPV formations on swarm strikes.
Proper mobile air defense is imperative. Moving IFVs, unloading infantry, and then reloading them in different vehicles is phenomenal.
The graphics are awesome, and I especially love the unit information card. Right-click on a unit and select the last option. I appreciate that detail. Can’t wait for the release.

Operation Market Garden has fascinated me for years. I first learned about it from playing the old computer game "Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far". This was the same year I first saw "Saving Private Ryan" and played Axis and Allies. Needless to say, it started a lifelong obsession with WW2!
So in this operation, the British and Americans launched a ground and airborne invasion of the German-occupied Netherlands, hoping to grab bridges across the Rhine and get into Germany itself. This was September 1944, so after D-Day but before the Bulge and Remagen Bridge.
I love the idea of paratroopers being landed ahead of a major offensive and needing to race to their objectives and dig in while the main force arrives. The fact that the campaign focused on a series of bridges along a single highway makes it quite easy to visualise and strategise for.
It seems clear in hindsight why the operation failed - it was far too ambitious and didn't take into account the huge reserves of SS Panzer units (mostly without tanks btw), Fallschirmjaeger, Luftwaffe ground troops and other assorted Wehrmacht units. The British paratroopers in Arnhem (the final bridge) were cut off for a long time and forced to surrender by superior German forces.
But in the immediate aftermath of Market Garden, what did people blame for its failure?
The Poles.
General Sosabowski's 1st Independnt Parachute Brigade had been landed to reinforce the British in Arnhem. They too were facing superior forces and had to cross a river in rubber boats to reach their objective. A tall order for any unit. The Poles fought valiantly but could not achieve their mission.
Blaming the Polish Brigade for the failure of a multi-division operation is just so completely unfair. Especially considering that these guys were actually hoping to drop into Warsaw and assist their own countrymen in winning independence from Germany and the Soviet Union.
The Polish paratroopers are awesome and really deserve their own game. And they shouldn't cop the heat for Monty's over-the-top plan!

This game was really something. Laying in ambush, waiting for the right moment to strike. Supressing enemy before action. Morale system.. it was so good and ahead of its time (videogame-wise). Hell, even my games took the core mechanics from Close Combat ❤️ – at Bosnia and Herzegovina

Wounded, captured, unbowed.
3/4 of the 1st Airborne Division has been captured, killed, wounded, or is missing.
Around 1,500 are dead.
Out of ammo and overrun by tanks, the remaining wounded survivors of Frost's force at Arnhem Bridge are captured.
The operation's primary objective is lost because the ground relief column took too long.
Was it impossible from the very start?
