FWIW I find PCGamer to actually still be pretty good, most of the time for most games. Their coverage of DA Veilguard (main review + a few additional articles) has felt fair and based in reality (and largely aligns with what RoboCop Tradwife said). YMMV of course
Third year running General Entomology lab, second year having no idea how I want to teach Lepidoptera ID

Most of my behavioral observations have been in the lab, but I've done a *lot* of those, and I know a good amount about the broader field (especially re: insects). I'd be happy to chat if you still need folks!

Got hired at Simpson College (Iowa) just last year, I'd be happy to chat! DM me for my email, I only check twitter occasionally
Statistical pet peeves (especially in ecology) that I should drill into students' brains early?
We're not doing stats in great depth, but we are spending time on how to think carefully about data, etc.
I'm already going to yell about ordinal data a lot
dorsal heart/ventral nerve yes, what is a ganglion yes
sections of the gut... I'm undecided
but honestly I'm open to arguments
The memorization load for Intro Entom is always heavy, I'm trying to think about where to trim vs where actually, yeah, the terms really are critical
Here's a fun one, entomologists - which parts of anatomy/morphology *truly* need to be memorized? I'm leaning
parts of the leg yes
mouthparts yes (to a point)
sections of the cuticle *no* (memorize the functions yes, regurgitate the terms endo- exo- epi-, not needed)
...

WE HAVE REACHED A FULL TENTATIVE AGREEMENT! @MIT MOVED BECAUSE OF OUR STRIKE THREAT! UNION SECURITY, REAL RECOURSE, AND ECONOMIC IMPROVEMENTS WON!
Favorite supplemental resources (for students) for General Entomology? I love NCSU's General Ent site, for example, but I'm sure there are other good ones
Was telling my students about how entomology collections share specimens and send things around, one said "it's like Pokémon," so naturally I got to tell them about how Pokémon was based on insect collecting in the first place

I think it's not *just* size-related, because I've observed the same phenomenon in a fairly wide size range - immatures shrivel, adults don't. So I'm wondering if there's something different in construction itself
"nymphs are simply juicier" is a great ento out of context moment

This is an amazing shot!
Could I have permission to include these (with attribution) for my Entomology class later this semester? Would be perfect for the parasitoid lecture
Something I've never quite understood myself - for insect nymphs very similar to the adults (Heteroptera, Blattodea, etc.), why do the nymphs shrivel when pinned, and adults don't? Something different about the chitin before that final stage?

New article by our curator, Dr. @CorrieMoreau, and @CornellEEB grad students @meganbarkdull_, @ColleenEcology, and @MoniquePipkin- parents and kids, check it out!
Do you know a kid interested in nature, science, or natural history museums? @meganbarkdull_ @ColleenEcology @MoniquePipkin and I wrote a fun paper for @FrontiersIn Young Minds titled "Natural History Collections: What Are They and Why Do We Need Them?"
kids.frontiersin.org/article…

ALT Figure 3 from the publication showing: Three distinct aspects of natural history collections. First, scientists use natural history collections to help with research. Second, the public interacts with natural history collections through museum exhibits, to learn more about biodiversity. Third, you can help collections yourself, by collecting and donating specimens, or volunteering online (Figure credit: Charlotte Welker Holden)!

Thanks sooo much to @EntsocAmerica for supporting entomologists that are also caregivers. This is so encouraging! 🦋🐞🐝🪰
