The @NYC_DOT has sabotaged our streets by reducing traffic lanes, changing traffic signals, closing streets, and building bike lanes along major roads that don’t need them. This has had devastating consequences as EMS response times have increased 41%. gothamist.com/news/nyc-ambul…

Parents have responsibilities. When I was 5, my parents taught me not to step off the curb. I was only allowed on 1 side street with little traffic. Are they still taught that today? We shouldn’t have to drive at 15 mph just because a kid might step out from between parked cars.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
I bet you wouldn’t feel that way if your kid was one of those 205.

No, but I wouldn’t be happy if I had to rely on limited street parking. You don’t get to choose if it’s against zoning laws and you don’t get a variance.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
Do you own the property on which that condo is going up? No? Then too bad. I know in your communist utopia you get to tell others what to do with their property, but in capitalism I get to choose what I build on my land.

What do you mean?

Why don’t you reply in line?

If someone moves into a low density neighborhood, they have the right to assume it will remain that for the foreseeable future. I am not choosing where others have to live. They can live in a high density area if that is their preference.
You have the right to choose to live in a low density neighborhood. You do not have the right to keep it a low density neighborhood and choose for others where they have to live

If you don’t quote what you are saying, how is someone supposed to know. Obviously many seniors can ride the bus, but many can’t.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
I gather you don't know how threads work here? I was responding to this claim: "If you have a senior citizen or anyone disabled at home, you will need a car. Period."

Sorry. Someone else said that anywhere the subway network is dense, we should have high density housing.
He thinks I proposed it, when in fact it's his own red herring.

And if eliminating a stop increases overcrowding, the minute or two saved is negated by longer dwell times.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
Decreasing subway stops increases service speed. There’s such a thing as stop overcrowding

I answered that already. If every time a single family home is demolished and replaced with a six family condo, that is forcing density on us.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
How is density forced on anyone?

Must explain what?
That must explain why I see so many elderly New Yorkers on the bus.

No one has proposed what?
Replying to @BrooklynBus
No one has proposed that. The proposal is to give property owners greater development rights.

Totally disagree. There are times when bus is the best option and other times when a car is the best option. Totally not mutually exclusive. We need both.
Maps of where NYC residents own cars and where they are hit by them are the reverse of each other and each car uses about as much space as a human teenager. So yea, in NEW YORK CITY pro car and pro bus are mutually exclusive. Also motorists should pay to store their own property.

First they want to eliminate bus stops, and now subway stations. We should be opening entrances that have been closed since the seventies to reduce walking distances, not increasing them.
My kind of content…. WE NEED THIS…..

Forcing density on whom?

As I said, you can prove anything you want using statistics. If it is so safe now, why is there a push to lower the speed limit to 15 and 20 mph and the city keeps saying a dozen or more streets are the most dangerous in the city? Sometimes, you have to say enough is enough.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
With those higher speed limits we also had triple the number of annual traffic deaths

Low density is relative. What we consider low density is medium density elsewhere. I never lived in Ohio.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
Go back to Ohio, I hear it's low density.

15 mph limit is appropriate on a ver small number of streets, under 10%.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
Its Not about max Speed for Cars so some Car owners Feel 'good', its about moving people fast and efficient in cities. And 15 mph is good If Cars arent blocking or slowing down Traffic.

Someone here is in favor of bulldozing Greenwich Village for high density because of the dense subway network there.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
Nobody is proposing to ban low-density. Yet high-density IS banned in most places. They should be equally legal.

Nothing is planned for the northern half. It’s the central portion that needs to be completed and it was scheduled to be done by the end of September. Hopefully it will be done before Thanksgiving.
Replying to @BrooklynBus
That HOV lane is only half way built though. The other phase of the van wyck is the northern half which the city will let drag on too
