Hey folks! I just published a game on steam that has a demo available. It's 8 games in one made by 7 different indie devs. A project I've been wanting to do since I started game development. More news to follow, hope y'all like it :) store.steampowered.com/app/4…

Yeah. Sometimes advice, even good advice backed by science and data, can be the opposite of what you want to do. Tough position to be in! Crank your risk knobs however you please...

If you have faith in your ability to make great games, you may as well follow the checklist to increase your odds. At worst, theyre minor constraints that your clever mind will work around. Or not, whatever.

There are alot of gamers but they dont behave like the blanket stats might suggest. They dont all equally take turns buying every game. They flock to the biggest and most exciting games in each genre and more widely according to press coverage. Its still incredibly low odds to make a game that sells even 10,000 copies unless youre making a game that outshines the genre leaders. And that aint easy.

Wouldnt be surprised if diablo 5 comes out on diablo 4's 10 year anniversary.

Its called probability. If you want to de-risk how you spend your time, you aim for the best probabilities. No one is saying anything about whats possible to happen, theyre saying whats likely to happen.

Youve set the bar so low you cant fail! I wonder why set it that low tho. Its like playing on the absolute lowest difficulty where enemies drop their guns and present their noggin for you to shoot. 1 sale is your target?

But not 99.9% of people who buy indie games. You have to remember that 75% of steam revenue is AAA games. So your total addressable market is like 25% of all users (if not, less). If you had 0.01% of all users who buy indie games buy your game youll only have 33,000 sales. And btw youll be in the top 5% of indie successes because barely any games reach that

50% idea 50% execution. Talent or hardwork can help with both

Steam didnt mark this review. The user did. And the user wants it to be negative. What else is there to say?

You cant "get them to leave reviews." Youre overthinking it.

You only get one life, its too short to spend time doing something you dont want to do. Especially if it isnt a means to get something you really want.

if you make $800 more, you'll get your $100 back too!

The reviews a user leaves appear in the activity feed for their steam friends. I could see someone making the argument that theyre informing everyone on their friendlist that they didnt like the game. No idea why though...
