Shipping a game will really break you...I had to really come to terms with my limitations and I even started therapy for the first time after finishing Bo because of how ill equipped I was to deal with all the stress.
The final two years of finishing my five year project twisted tower really did a number on me. Nothing crazy but just… lost a lot motivation, my work outs became increasingly rarer and lazy, my diet was terrible, I admittedly drank many evenings to get my brain to calm down (again nothing crazy but more than I’m happy to admit), and my moods were completely unpredictable. I felt like a husk, and I was frequently scared. I wasn’t a great husband and father sometimes. I was obsessed and made up bizarre scenarios in my head about failing. I’m glad it’s over and the game is doing well. Guess what, it’s not over. More to come for the game. But I’m typing this from the gym, focusing heavily on rebuilding my brain and body, but planning on breathing more life into the game but from a healthier state of mind (and btw I’ve learned a lot about what insane value updating games with meaningful updates brings, video coming soon). Be careful out there devs. Don’t be afraid of failing - - it can turn you into a zombie. Just make games you enjoy making and what happens happens. It’s not worth the pain of hurting your brain, body, and family.

Here is my larger point. Fair enough that it was a very vague post so a lot of people didn't really get it. But its crazy how many people arguing against my post when they are actually making my argument.

for those intentionally or unintentionally trying to misrepresent my posiition. answer me these questions: 1. Did this person have a generally positive experience playing this game? (I think it's fair to say yes) 2. What does Steam mark this review as? (negative) 3. Is that ok? – at Haiya, Thailand

My greater point here is illustrated by this analogy: Recommended:Not Recommended ≠ Postive:Negative

and Steam shouldn't represent it as such. There is a LOT of significant nuance that gets evaporated by their current system.

I have never understood why Steam changes the language here. You ask players to "recommend" or "not recommend" the game when they write a review and then characterize it as something different when its displayed on Steam pages.

This indie developer is making a combat-oriented metroidvania steeped in Mexican folklore, with an updated release date of April 27, 2027. The game is Mariachi Legends. How good does this look?

People who have ever called him a "Charlatan" have no ground to stand on and never did... The fact that he is able to run a succesful Youtube Channel, Full Time Game Dev Course, raise a family AND produce a hit video game with a tiny team... is actually a testament that he is one of the hardest working human beings on this planet.
Thomas Brush just earned the respect of a lot of devs who had written him off as a charlatan because of his courses.
