Fifty years since this lot first appeared on British television.
I’ve just tried calling 01-811-8055. The number isn’t recognised now. Shame.

In 1976, Multi-Coloured Swap Shop created the template that BBC Saturday morning kids TV would use, with tweaks for 40+ years. Even a few ITV Saturday morning kids shows like Saturday Banana would use it. I can remember when the number was 01-288-8055. #SwapShop50

This title montage was used to open the 16 February 1980 edition of Swap Shop which used title sets from earlier series and replaced the usual series 4 title style.
This used the earlier version of the Mike Batt theme opening with the guitar riff rather than the second version with the drum roll.

Time to make some more noise...
There's now only 80 days to go until 2 October 2026 which marks 50 years of BBC Saturday morning television.
Come on BBC, surely you're not going to let a major milestone in British television broadcasting just go unnoticed?

While made for children with hearing impairment, Vision On (1st broadcast 62 years ago) quickly gained a wide following of fans in its 12-year run.
Encouraging imagination and an abundance of ideas, it never talked down to kids - entertaining while educating them too.
