In 2019, a small surf town in El Salvador started an experiment: what if a whole community ran on bitcoin? 🌊
Last year in Mauritius, 14 projects across Africa that took the El Zonte model and made it their own met in one room for the very first time.
We were there with cameras rolling. Over the next few weeks we’re releasing clips from the minidoc we made: their stories, their successes, their struggles, and how they’re picking up the pieces and building their own future, on their own terms. 🌍
This is what a circular economy looks like when it spreads.
Now the movement comes home. The Global Bitcoin Circular Economies Summit returns to El Zonte, and this time it’s open to everyone.

The central message of my keynote at the #Bitcoin Poland Conference tomorrow will be that we must now progress:
from “BUY Bitcoin” to “USE Bitcoin”.
Bitcredit Protocol is now live on Mainnet. Producers and traders in the global supply chains now have a peer-to-peer alternative to nation state money and bank credit. On permissionless Bitcoin rails. Free and open source.

Over the past two months, the Bitcoin Office (led by @daxsosa) and @BitcoinBeach teams have been training public school teachers to implement the Bitcoin Diploma 2.0. Both contributed to the new curriculum, which was authored by @adam_nili and @nelsoninno.
Nelson, a Salvadoran bitcoiner, recently returned to his home country after living in Germany for 14 years.
Thanks to El Salvador’s ongoing economic and tech transformation under the leadership of President Bukele, however, Nelson is now able to live and build where he was born. Opportunities abound in the new El Salvador and this is just the beginning.
Paso a paso, we are all contributing to the success of the new El Salvador.
