Made Spool. It's a browser-based photo editor that uses WebGL 2.0 to emulate film. It has a procedural grain engine, 12 distinct film profiles, and keyboard shortcuts. All processing runs locally on your GPU. Your photos are never uploaded to a server. What did you make today?

While working at Prevoty, I met a successful founder who had sold 2 of his companies. He shared one thing with me: "picking a co-founder is a question of who you'd want to sell bananas on the beach with for the rest of your life."

KEN GRIFFIN: WE HAVE SHED MORE THAN 80% OF THE AGGREGATE RISK WE TOOK ON FROM OUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS PORTFOLIO. So, Citadel creates fear in the market by saying there will be a rate hike to cause a liquidation of these high beta semiconductor names. Then, they buy up all of Leopold's leveraged exposure for 40-50 cents on the dollar. Two weeks later on August 11th, they issue a note to clients saying that they think the market is ready to "systematically start buying" the names that got sold off. Then today, Ken Griffin tells investors that they sold most of their exposure which means he unwound those names in the past 2 weeks after their massive reversals from July. Wall Street is ruthless.

Reasoning and daydreaming have opposite objective functions. Reasoning contracts the space and prunes early. Daydreaming expands the space and prunes late.

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter. AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country. Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models. images.nvidia.com/pdf/Open-W…

Why is it ‘cancelled’ in the U.K. but ‘canceled’ in the U.S.? Because we gave them that L in 1776.

Also known as: at scale everything is a network problem.
Optimized large model inference is really just pretraining with extra steps.

Replying to @Dorialexander
was discussing yesterday with a lab currently scaling and, data aside, they spend most days on network issues.

Today on the blog, we discuss a pathway for the second life of phones through the exploration of “phone cluster computing”, which can directly reduce the environmental footprint of computing by avoiding the need for further raw material extraction. More →goo.gle/4aJe5vO
