LIVE | "Today, the biggest constraint to growth of every business is finding skilled manpower," said Dr @ShamikaRavi, Member, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, addressing the launch of iFOREST's national report, India's Green Economy Workforce. She pointed to a paradox in India's labour market: unemployment among college graduates is close to 12%, against a national average of around 3.3%. "We have degrees. We don't have skill. The market is now saying, we will reward only skill." #iFORESTOpinion| India's net oil and gas import bill last financial year was $117.5 billion, roughly the size of Punjab's economy. Efforts to reduce this dependence focus on electric vehicles, green hydrogen, ethanol, and solar parks. Yet a large share of imported fuel is burnt simply to produce heat in factory boilers, hotel and hospital water heaters, and ovens and dryers in automobile plants. About 40% of the energy used in Indian industry goes into heat. Heat pumps, a proven and commercially available technology, can replace much of the oil and gas burnt for it. In MSME-dominated sectors such as dairy, textiles, and food processing, they can meet a quarter of current energy demand at half the cost. Our report on Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) launched in collaboration with @uppcbofficial is making news. @timesofindia, @JagranNews, @TheStatesmanLtd and @uniindianews highlighted our key finding. Pollution monitors in #UttarPradesh's high-polluting industries are in place, but poorly calibrated and maintained, so their data cannot yet be relied on for regulation. #JustReleased | Our new report takes a close look at the pollution monitors fitted to industrial stacks across Uttar Pradesh. Today in #Lucknow, iFOREST and @uppcbofficial launched the CEMS Assessment Report & Checklist: Adoption and Implementation in Industries of Uttar Pradesh. The report reviews 163 Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) across 41 industries. CEMS are designed to track industrial emissions in real time. The study shows that most are in place but poorly calibrated and maintained, which means their data cannot yet be relied on for regulation. What the report found: ▪ Just 27% of industries could confirm their CEMS were certified ▪ Calibration is mostly handed over to vendors ▪ No industry could confirm that its data was converted into the standard format used for compliance checks ▪ No system exists to check whether CEMS are installed and run correctly To close these gaps, the report lays out an 18-month roadmap and a self-assessment checklist for industries, paving the way for CEMS-based compliance in the state. On September 21, iFOREST presented its first comprehensive repurposing plan for Murpar, a closed mine in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, recognised as a model by the Hon'ble Union Minister of Coal and Mines for sustainable land use and community-oriented development. The initiative aims to show that transforming former mining land can go beyond simple restoration, to creating new economic and social opportunities around it, turning a former site into a regional asset that supports a just transition for the region. The meeting included the District Collector @CollectorC21067 , Chandrapur; senior officials from the Tourism Department, Forest Department, and @TeamWCL; and other concerned members.
