The planning application relating to the proposed expansion of the All England Lawn Tennis Club grounds onto Wimbledon Park Golf Course has been 'called in' by Deputy Mayor @JulesPipe

ALT A spokesperson for the Mayor of London said: “This is a major planning application, of London-wide significance. Therefore, the Deputy Mayor has issued a direction under Article 7 of the Town and Country Planning (Mayor of London) Order that he becomes the local planning authority for the purposes of determining the application. A full planning hearing will be held in due course.”

This is why felling 800 trees in Wimbledon Park for @Wimbledon industrial tennis complex makes no sense. Over 800,000 kgC released into the atmosphere along with loss of bird and wildlife habitats. @Merton_Council @wandbc #MOL #environment #trees shd be the primary consideration

We despair. Such bias and greenwashing. Every question deferred to applicant so they can milk as much as possible. Why didn’t Merton bring in their own experts to answer from a neutral point of view. BTW @merton_council YOU own the lake! – at Merton, London

Meet at Merton Civic Centre Thursday 26th October 5pm, to peacefully protest ahead of the planning committee meeting to vote on the AELTC application to build on Wimbledon Park - Metropolitan Open Land, Grade II* Heritage, protected by covenants signed by AELTC and Merton.
Unless Common sense prevails on Thursday @Merton_Council DPAC meeting, entire(pink) 75 acre MOL Grade II* Heritage Park will be excavated & lost forever with openness gone via a Stadium & Boardwalk, 2000 trees removed & 10000’s tonnes of concrete poured into the precious ground.

Over 13000 have signed a petition objecting to the proposed development, which, if passed, will cause immense damage to the environment. For example, circa 2000 trees will be destroyed, and rare species of fauna will be disturbed. #environment more information @SaveWimbldnPark

Read the details at savewimbledonpark.org and please sign our change.org petition. The park is not as big as Sally Bolton says. It will not have permanent public access and Merton residents used to have access to the whole golf course not just a fraction of it.
