7 years ago today @Merton_Council decided to celebrate #CarFreeDay by closing down the bus stop in Morden.
It hadn't occurred to them removing a sustainable transport option would encourage people to drive.
This @MertonLabour council really has no clue.
Good news @MertonLabour fixed the #climatecrisis, rather than rushing into things like 400 principal councils across the country declaring a net-0 target of 2030.
Merton is one of the few that decided 2050 was soon enough.
Apparently the lazy approach was spot on, as they fixed it, removing the Cabinet Position and removing the Climate Change Manager position from the council. This summer was just a glitch and the climate will return to normal upon the council's say so.
On 25 Feb 2026 the @Merton_Council Budget 2026/27 & MTFS 2026-30 report was publIshed the same day as the Full Council Budget meeting.
It proposed to "delete" staff vacancies from each of the 6 Directors depts to save 拢300,000.
I guess one of the deleted role was FOI replies.
A member of public asked the council a FOI request on 20 Jul with a due date of 17 Aug.

Not only that the Brexit Party ex Mitcham & Morden candidate @maddocksbrexit has jumped ship.
They know it's a lie, but polling suggest enough believe it to make it a trick worth repeating.
