Oil creates demand for dollars, and dollar demand helps support reserve-currency status.
A petrodollar is simply a U.S. dollar earned from oil exports. Because much of the world's oil trade has historically been conducted in dollars, global energy demand has helped reinforce demand for the dollar and support its role as the world's primary reserve currency.
