Please don't cut back ivy if tidying your garden! Around this time of year its flowers are a fantastic late season pit-stop for struggling pollinators like bees, butterflies, hoverflies and moths 🐝

Only true #bumblebee queens and workers have #pollen baskets on their hind legs. Often a ball of pollen will be present, but when empty, a shiny surface fringed by hairs can be seen. If the bumblebee has hairy hind legs, it will be a male or cuckoo bumblebee. #bumblebeefacts

The first secondary Asian Hornet nest of 2019 has been found on the island of Jersey - one day earlier than the first one spotted last year. It is high up in an ash tree at the side of a road. #bees #beekeeping

This is one of those events that I have been hoping to photograph for ages, the moment that a Honey Bee Apis mellifera worker is captured and paralysed by a female Bee-wolf Philanthus triangulum. Part of a series from today @StevenFalk1 @NHM_Bees @MarkBravery.
