The science is clear: HPV vaccination is safe and effective. It’s vital that access to HPV vaccination and cervical screening is improved to ensure more lives aren’t lost to cervical cancer, and I encourage all eligible people to take up these life-saving offers.
Getting vaccinated against #HPV gives long-lasting protection against developing HPV-related cancers.
If you missed your jab, check the NHS website to see if you're eligible for a catch-up. #HPVAwareness
🔗 nhs.uk/vaccinations/hpv-vacc…

ALT You'll be offered the HPV vaccination in school year 8. It is highly effective at protecting against cervical cancer and genital warts, and should also prevent a range of other cancers. If you missed out on your HPV jab you can catch up until your 25th birthday. Contract your school nurse or GP practice to arrange an appointment.

Thanks to the power of research and efforts of NHS staff, we can eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem in our lifetime in the UK- the HPV vaccine combined with cervical screening can help to bring about a future virtually free from this cancer. I encourage everyone eligible to get the vaccine and attend a cervical screening appointment #CervicalCancerPreventionWeek
In our latest news story, we urge young people to come forward and catch-up on any missed HPV vaccines.
Dr Sharif Ismail, Consultant Epidemiologist at UKHSA shares some words on the latest figures. 💬

Thrilled to share our @SciImmunology paper! Rodent PD-1 is weaker than human PD-1 (reduced ligand binding & signaling) & lacks a conserved vertebrate motif. Humanizing mouse PD-1 disrupts T cell anti-tumor responses, raising many questions. Kudos to @MasubuchiTakeya for leading this work, and @jackbuimdphd @ZhengtingZou @CWu2009 et al. for collaboration.science.org/doi/10.1126/scii… See also excellent media report by @mario_maguilera today.ucsd.edu/story/scienti…

HPV type and Ct value on HPV-positive self-samples may be used for triage. The difference in the risk of CIN2+ in these groups appears sufficient to justify differential clinical management. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3966…
