The more I contemplate the philosophy of the common good, the more contradictions emerge. For instance, consider encouraging traditional families and childbearing. How can this be achieved within a nation, beyond cultural influences? Well, post-liberals will support tax refunds and subsidized childcare, claiming this is the morally superior approach. However, this policy itself is immoral because it necessitates taxation and wealth redistribution, which are essentially theft. This is why liberty and personal choice are always morally superior, regardless of whether they align with our vision of America.

More likely: Vance thinks the Crackpot Coalition will give him the numbers he needs to fend off a challenge from the old coalition of traditional limited-government conservatives and free-market types in the primary. He has more or less stated as much in his tirades against "Fusionism 2.0" and his conspiracy theories about the "libertarian donor network" that supposedly controls the right. Vance's strategy right now is to build up the Crackpot Coalition as a preemptive buffer against an expected challenge from the mainstream right. This includes: - Use Tucker Carlson and other "influencers" to normalize racists and desensitize the public to them through bigotry-fatigue, so that by 2028 "normie" voters are not immediately repulsed by their outsized presence in the Vance coalition - Stack the administrative state, the postliberal think tank scene, and the political apparatus of Trumpworld with radical-reactionary intern types who are intentionally selected and curated for edgelord bigotry and personal loyalty to the postliberal cause. Vance-controlled groups like American Moment have made this their explicit mission, along with keeping out free-market and limited government types. - Deploy the hyperonline Vanceguard activists to harass, bully, smear, and cancel anyone who criticizes Vance, no matter how valid, and to cultivate a public perception that Vance is the inevitable heir apparent to Trump. This is the whole grifter scene's mission at the moment around Posobiec and similar trashcasters.

This is just embarrassingly incompetent "economic" reasoning. Tariffs affect a consumer surplus transfer to the beneficiary industry by specifically and intentionally raising prices. Wishcasting about some future price decrease in their wake is not a serious argument.
Tariffs of this sort don't aim at raising prices for their own sake, but on establishing incentives for investment in American industry which, once productive, has its own reasons to reduce prices. | @michaelbd nationalreview.com/corner/no…

Lutnick is a menace. He reportedly also caused problems with the Canada deal a few months ago. He intervened and disrupted it at the last minute because he thought Greer’s framework was too generous to Canada. Continuing the trade war with Canada is one of several dumb, self-inflicted wounds that have hurt Trump and the GOP.

Yo Phil, America has had tariffs for 237....that's TWO HUNDRED THIRTY SEVEN years. You might want to do a little research before you post something stupid.

Inflation, which was the major complaint MAGA had against Biden, is now accelerating. And MAGA is silent. Pathetic hypocrites, the lot of them.

Ronald Reagan's largest annual budget deficit, in inflation adjusted dollars, was $703 billion. Compare that with today's $2 trillion annual budget deficit. Today's is 3x as high as Reagan's.

I don’t know a lot about the whole H1B visa thing that Vance passed, but it seems to me it’s another example of the government punishing businesses for a policy they created. Instead of reforming a bad program they are just doing the easy work of pushing more rules on big businesses.

The trade deficit, which is not a problem, was a reason that Trump imposed his moronic tariffs. The initial levels were even based on bilateral deficits. A year and a half later, the deficit is higher, prices are higher, and US buyers bore the tax burden. Very Trumpian.
The trade deficit hit a 17-month high β€” 18 months after historic tariffs were supposed to fix it. Tariffs can't fundamentally alter the trade deficit, which is driven by macroeconomic factors, including government deficit spending, explains Cato's @scottlincicome on @MSNOWNews.

Running record deficits during non-crisis times: bad idea.
The federal budget deficit totaled $2.0 trillion in fiscal year 2026, the Congressional Budget Office estimates, $218 billion more than the deficit recorded in fiscal year 2025. cbo.gov/publication/61985

This is why Trump can't ever win any war. He lacks the spine to do it.
Three weeks ago Trump signed the Lindsey Graham Russia Sanctions bill as a testament to Graham's commitment to put an economic stranglehold on Putin. Today Trump announces we're importing massive fuel from Russia

Congress just passed a law giving Trump the power to impose new tariffs on major buyers of Russian oil & gas. Can America tariff America?
