I sat down with Dr Veenu Gupta from Durham University to talk about the Lived Experience Workforce for #NRSMH24. Veenu outlines the many roles at play, and some of the challenges of a “liminal” role, sitting “between” services users and providers. youtu.be/sChnCy0gkvk 🧵

Feeling blessed to be putting UK clin psych research on the world stage! @Euro_Gang 22 has been a fantastic opportunity to showcase my research to well known academics in the field of gang violence. We have been able to share our research and interventions to generate new learning as a group. There is so much going on in the world and this allows us to keep in touch and work together. The networking itself has been phenomenal. I keep telling #dclinpsy trainees that their research is powerful. It can literally take you anywhere and I hope this is testament to that. Shout outs to @MistaGoode @Rachel_McKail @DclinpsyUh for getting my research to this standard! #trauma #violence #gangs #community #research #researchers #clinicalpsychology

“We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other." 🖤 I had the amazing opportunity to be part of something bigger than me. A professional networking event to meet Black academics and practitioners at various different stages of their careers at @KingsCollegeLon. I was also part of a panel discussion with @keisha_a_y & David Pepple where I gave my thoughts on whether or not I feel that there is a nurturing community for Black academics and practitioners within the fields of psychology and psychiatry. My answer is both yes and no, and used Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model to explain my thinking. When I think about the word nurture, I think about flourishing, development and protection. At a macrosystem level I don’t think there is any nurturing that takes place from the psychiatry and psychology fields, which is why at a microsystem level, Black academics and practitioners are having to carve out their own spaces within these fields in order to feel nurtured. This is why the @BIPPNetwork exists. It’s a recognition that the system is failing us. When the Black community feels that they are able to flourish, develop and feel protected and safe within the macrosystem, then I can confidently say there is a holistic nurturing community in these fields. #dclinpsy #Networking #blackcommunity #psychology #Psychiatry
