Being a total idiot I left my black laptop bag on the tube on Thursday at around 9.10pm. It was on the High Barnet branch of northern line. It’s got my laptop and two recorders in it. If anybody has handed it on/picked it up, it would be amazing to get back. Please share

I have been blessed. Besides my family, there were a few people who also stepped up to help shape me to be the person that I am. This is one of the key people in my life who played that role, to me, Mrs. Carrington, my primary school Principal. To the rest of Barbados, Dame Avisene Carrington. Hers has been an extraordinary contribution to so many and of course to our country. Yesterday, Dame Avisene turned 108 years old. Yes 108 years old!! Her mobility and her memory will put so many others to shame! Trust me on that!
The late Bernie Grant was one of those spied upon by undercover police, and is represented at this #spycops enquiry.
The deployment of secret undercover political police into protest groups for years at a time is shocking. But it’s only part of the story of the UK state’s covert human surveillance of activists.
Once someone ended up with a #spycops officer in their life, that was only the start of being under scrutiny.
Through the Undercover Policing Inquiry process we have heard of many of the other tactics that have been used to target campaigners.
The Special Branch undercover police would share their intelligence with the Security services MI5, who issued the officers with ‘shopping lists’ of information on dissidents they were interested in. We heard reference to individual informers who were active within organisations for over 20 years.
Since the closing down of the original spycops units, the use of infiltration methods that do not include the field deployment of serving police officers has only grown.

The #spycops Inquiry returns for one day only on Monday 21st September with two witnesses: undercover officer HN60 who used the cover name “Dave Evans”, then the activist Helen Steel.
As usual I’ll be reporting live on everything that happens.

In the 11 years of the @ucpinquiry there’s only been limited parliamentary support for those spied on, with some notable exceptions.
Many MPs were themselves spied on by #spycops.
The first black MP @BGTrust, along with the first black female MP, @HackneyAbbott, were repeatedly reported on by undercover officers for supporting family justice campaigns and people organising for police accountability.
@jeremycorbyn has been one of the most reported on MPs due to his support for peace, trade union and socialist causes.
@PeterHain was a prominent anti apartheid campaigner with the Stop the 70 Tour - running on to stop cricket matches taking place, and they did the same thing with the British and Irish Lions Tour of 1972. Blocking the team from leaving the Star and Garter hotel in a protest that included an undercover police officer.
Whilst Welsh Secretary, father of the House of Commons and part of Tony Blair cabinet after he voted for the Iraq war, Peter Hain attended a Christmas party at the parents of spied on activist @fruitbatmania who was being deceived into a relationship by undercover police officer officer Mark Kennedy, in Kennedy's report, he referred to Hain as a ‘South African terrorist’. It just shows however senior a position, if you ever dare to threaten power structures, you will continue to be targeted.

Taking Dorie Miller’s name, a Navy sailor and Pearl Harbor hero, off an aircraft carrier and replacing it with Donald Trump’s is exactly as racist as you think it is.

It's fair to say that @SadiqKhan is probably the single most maligned man in British politics, and I think we all know why. He is Muslim. The extraordinary level of hatred directed at him, including from people like Donald Trump and Elon Musk, has nothing to do with his actual record and everything to do with the fact that attacking a Muslim mayor of London fits perfectly into their wider rhetoric. Khan has never attempted to push Islam on anyone. There is no Sharia law operating in London. The idea that London has somehow fallen under Islamic control is complete bullshit.
Meanwhile, his actual record is remarkably strong. ULEZ was an incredibly brave and often unpopular political decision, but it has dramatically reduced harmful air pollution and is improving the health of Londoners from babies to the elderly. Homicide and violent crimes have fallen significantly under this tenure. Council house building has reached levels not seen since the 1970s. The Elizabeth line opened under his administration and has transformed transport across London. None of this means London doesn’t have huge problems, particularly affordability, but pretending Khan has presided over some collapsing dystopia simply isn’t supported by reality.
One policy that particularly matters to me is universal free school meals for London’s state primary school children. I received free school meals myself, and they made a huge difference to my life. For periods of my childhood, it was probably the only decent meal I had each day. Today, 270,000 children benefit from knowing that at least five days a week they are going to get a proper meal.
Khan’s tenure hasn’t been flawless. No political tenure ever is. Things get better, things get worse and politicians should absolutely be criticised when they get things wrong. But the sheer hatred and vilification directed at this man bears absolutely no relationship to his actual record. He has taken years of abuse, including attacks from some of the most powerful people in the world, kept his resolve and carried on doing the job. He deserves far more credit than he gets.

I wonder what Letitia Wright and @LPToussaint feel about their interview being used for a totally needless attack on Jason Arday, even after he passed? I guess Trevor 'formerly of the Black community' Phillips just couldn't resist sticking the boot in. New lows even for him 😡

This #FunFactFriday, we’re celebrating Daniel Kaluuya, an award-winning actor, writer, and filmmaker whose journey from Camden to Hollywood continues to inspire audiences around the world. 🎬✨
Born in London to Ugandan parents, Daniel has become one of the most influential Black British creatives of his generation. Before he was starring in blockbuster films, he was already making his mark behind the scenes, writing for the popular British series Skins while still a teenager.
Daniel rose to international fame through powerful performances in films such as Get Out and Black Panther, using storytelling to spark conversations about identity, culture, and representation. His work has helped bring Black experiences and perspectives to global audiences in meaningful and impactful ways.
In 2021, he won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah, further cementing his place in film history and highlighting the importance of telling stories rooted in Black history.
What many people don’t know is that Daniel wrote his first play at just nine years old, showing a passion for creativity and storytelling from an early age. 🎭
His story reminds us that our backgrounds, cultures, and experiences can be a source of strength, and that believing in your voice can open doors to extraordinary opportunities. ✨
