⭕️ Palestinian-American scholar Joseph Massad argues that liberal solidarity with Palestinians often extends only to recognizing them as victims of Israeli violence. He draws parallels with South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko’s critique of white liberals, who claimed the moral authority to dictate how Black South Africans should pursue liberation. Massad argues that today’s liberals similarly condemn both Netanyahu and Hamas, positioning themselves as arbiters of acceptable Palestinian resistance while remaining, as Biko observed, “indifferent to the suffering” and “patient with the cruelty” inflicted on oppressed people. 🎥 The Electronic Intifada (October 8).
