I don’t hate Makaton, just dislike Makaton. Don’t learn Makaton, LEARN BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE.

Makaton Awareness Day Makaton took signs from BSL and turned them into a separate, restricted system. This has damaged the recognition of BSL and divided our language from the Deaf community Stop taking our language. BSL is ours. #makatonawarenessday

See this papers? It’s British Sign Language, that how Makaton “stole” BSL. Learn BSL instead.
It’s Deaf Awareness week this week so we’ve been learning how to communicate through sign and makaton with youth worker Fatima. 👍👌👋👏 @younggreenwich #deafawarenessweek

Trying to learn BSL. My nonverbal autistic child is picking up BSL better than Makaton so I’m now trying to find signs that could teach him. I know most of the alphabet (can someone explain why Z is the way it is?) but I’m trying to pick up words he would find useful too.

Merry Christmas, everybody! 🎄 Just remember: when Makaton signs ‘Merry Christmas,’ it comes from British Sign Language. Don’t be an idiot, don’t let Makaton fool you! #Makaton #Makaton #Culturalappropriation

This. Please pay attention, Makaton is guilty of cultural appropriation!
Here we see Makaton has completely copied the BSL sign - as they have for the vast majority of signs. How do Makaton justify the myth that their signs are easier when the signs are actual BSL signs

This!
These videos by the play team are great examples of how Makaton has in almost all cases directly & fully copied the BSL sign. Makaton say BSL signs are too hard for disabled people and yet they use these very same signs they state are too hard. Using BSL for all will benefit all

Makaton supporters always block BSL users as they can't cope with having their flawed logic questioned. Rather than be open to discuss why the Makaton myths don't add up they just block

Another example of changes made by makaton that make no sense is the alphabet. Why? And why haven't they changed English words..afterall it is the English that many SEN children struggle with which is why they need the signs

Makaton is a ridiculous concept if you consider doing this to any other languages. But because the oppressed deaf people they are somehow seen as a positive. Makaton needs to be abolished

Today is Makaton awareness. Did you know Makaton is guilty of cultural appropriation of native sign languages. Did you know that using the actual sign language (BSL in the UK) would be more effective and inclusive #makaton needs to stop

🤦
I can't grasp how Makaton advocates can post videos as Makaton when they are British sign language signs. Everyday I see a Makaton video showing BSL. Yet Makaton argue that disabled people can't do BSL signs and yet post evidence that they can by the signs being actual BSL.

Makaton is based in the sign language of each country. So in UK they use the signs from BSL but I'm Fance it would be the signs from French sign language. Makaton isn't more universal and is really quite awful organisation for oppressing natural sign languages/deaf community
