The British Sign Language (BSL) GCSE in England is one step closer! We’re thrilled that @ofqual has completed its work on the BSL GCSE, meaning awarding bodies can now start developing the qualification – a huge moment for the deaf community. The GCSE will be available for both deaf and hearing students to study, helping more young people learn BSL and break down barriers to communication. Tomorrow, @DHSCgovuk will publish the Kingdon Review and its findings. The review highlights a series of catastrophic failings in children’s hearing services in England, which have led to harm for hundreds of deaf children.
🚨 Exclusive: A damning inquiry will reveal tomorrow how NHS leaders ignored warnings over unsafe hearing tests 12 years ago leaving 300 children permanently disabled. @CamillaKingdon labels it a "disaster" and calls for a change in leadership: thetimes.com/article/2f23cca…

George Crockford, Chief Executive at the National Deaf Children’s Society, said: "It's vital that deafness is identified early so that deaf children can be supported right from the start. Deaf children and their families deserve far better than an overlooked, undervalued and underfunded ‘Cinderella service’ that doesn’t meet their needs.

Parent volunteers at Cambridge and Huntingdon Deaf Children’s Society often found it hard to fundraise regularly. So when the National Deaf Children’s Society community grant launched, Claire, a parent volunteer, was quick to apply. Claire and her team planned a programme of exciting events, including Rumble (a laser-tag game), a trip to a waterpark, and they were able to set up a new group for parents and carers with younger children. Katie, who is 13 and profoundly deaf, said “Coming to these events, I’ve met so many different people that are all going through a similar thing to me. It feels good to be with people who are in the same place.” For more information about applying for our community grant, head to our website: go.ndcs.org.uk/rumblelx #DeafChildren #CommunityGrant #Grants

Deaf children at Ipswich Deaf Children’s Society were frustrated and felt left out of horse riding activities in their local area, so the group decided to do something about it. Applying for our community grant was the first step, which enabled them to run a ten-week horse riding course for deaf children and their families. The group loved it, with positive feedback from parents and deaf children. Our grant is open for applications right now, so head over to our website for more details: go.ndcs.org.uk/iphrlx #DeafChildren #CommunityFunding #Funding #Grants #GrantsProgramme
