The NCSC is encouraging UK organisations to prepare for immediate updating of systems using PHP. Where immediate remediation is not feasible, organisations should consider taking the system offline until it can be fully mitigated.

How I perform database refactors in 2026:
- Dashboard is easy to verify but API is harder
- We store all API request history.
- We run every API request from the past 6 months, with both data models, and verify the output is exactly the same

I never recommend YouTube channels but this guy is consistently putting out top quality content, has a calm voice, amazing accent and is aimed heavily at Laravel developers. If you're not subscribed, you should do so now. An easy way to stay in the loop without getting exhausted.

PHP tip.
`[a-zA-Z]` in a regex misses letters like é, ü or ж.
`\p{L}` matches ANY letter in any language.
Add the `u` flag so PHP reads the string as UTF-8, and pair it with `mb_strtolower()` instead of `strtolower()`.

Laravel tip.
SQL `avg()` skips NULL values.
So `avg(case when error is null then duration_ms end)` averages ONLY successful rows.
Stack a few of these in `selectRaw()` and one query returns total calls, success count and averages side by side.
