🚨 New open-access paper out now in PB&R: link.springer.com/article/10… We (w/ @LanguageMIT, @AphasiaLab) explore how individuals with aphasia interpret sentences & whether their comprehension difficulties stem from increased expectations of noise in language input. 🧵👇

Excited to start 2025 with a paper out in @StrokeAHA_ASA (ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/…) We tested the efficacy of candidate predictive models to predict treatment outcomes in bilingual aphasia – critical for personalizing approaches for Spanish-English stroke survivors. 1/3

Using ML, we achieved strong predictive performance (e.g., F1 ≥ 0.77) by considering language severity, cognitive abilities, and demographics. Most exciting: Untreated language abilities & cognitive performance emerged as key predictors of cross-language generalization. 2/3

This work provides the first data-driven evidence for how multiple factors shape recovery in bilingual aphasia – and may help clinicians better anticipate treatment response. Thanks to amazing colleagues and guidance from @AphasiaLab @UTAustin @ClaudiaNeuropsi and others! 3/3
