Innovation Begins with a Question. Impact Begins with the Courage to Find an Answer. Congratulations to @macky_neal , on his inspiring reflection published in the American College of Surgeons Bulletin, “A Surgeon-Scientist Reflects on Nearly a Decade of Innovation.” From pioneering research in platelet biology to advancing synthetic platelet technology that could transform emergency trauma care, Dr. Neal's journey is a powerful reminder that the most meaningful innovations begin with a commitment to solving real human challenges. His work represents the extraordinary intersection of science, medicine, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and visionary leadership demonstrating how discoveries in the laboratory can move toward life-saving solutions for patients around the world. What makes this journey especially inspiring is his belief that innovation is not simply about scientific breakthroughs, but about building the teams, institutions, and next generation of leaders who can carry those breakthroughs forward. The future of healthcare will be shaped by leaders who dare to challenge what is possible and remain deeply committed to the people they serve. Congratulations, Dr. Neal, on nearly a decade of remarkable progress and on the exciting possibilities ahead. In 1992 Peter Ratcliffe received this rejection from Nature. Almost 30 years later he won the Nobel Prize for the same discovery. Don't lose faith in the things you believe in.

A new milestone for Symvess® in Florida. Last week, Dr. Geoff Risley of Coastal Vascular and Interventional performed the first commercial Symvess® case at Sacred Heart Emerald Coast in Destin. Thank you to Dr. Risley and the entire clinical team for helping to expand access to this important treatment option for patients. #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalExcellence PLEASE SEE IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION INCLUDING THE BOXED WARNING, AND FULL PRESCRIBING INFORMATION at bit.ly/4dl5tuL INDICATION SYMVESS is an acellular tissue engineered vessel indicated for use in adults as a vascular conduit for extremity arterial injury when urgent revascularization is needed to avoid imminent limb loss, and autologous vein graft is not feasible. GRAFT FAILURE: loss of SYMVESS integrity due to mid-graft rupture or anastomotic failure can result in life-threatening hemorrhage. DO NOT use SYMVESS in patients who have a medical condition that would preclude long-term antiplatelet therapy after acute injury resolution. WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS: Vascular Graft Rupture, Anastomotic Failure, and Thrombosis have occurred in patients treated with SYMVESS. SYMVESS is manufactured using cells and reagents that may transmit infectious diseases or agents; none have been reported during clinical testing. ADVERSE REACTIONS: most common (≥3%): thrombosis, fever, pain, anastomotic stenosis, rupture or anastomotic failure, and infection.

And it's finally out!!! nature.com/articles/s41467-0… go.nature.com/4fuaJzW Congrats to first author @moisesdisante and the research teams at @LabPhysiology @berteroale and @florianjug. Tnx to the editor and reviewers of the manuscript for helping us make the paper better than the preprint (e.g., pro-proliferative screening in the last figure). And tnx to various collaborators who have already asked us for reagents and cells to make CALIPERS work in their labs - reach out if you want to give it a try!
🚀 CALIPERS v2 preprint is locked—journal submission next. Final polish, more hiPSC reference lines, and fresh light-sheet data. Still, a great collaboration led by @moisesdisante with the team @LabPhysiology and the amazing @berteroale and @florianjug group members! doi.org/10.1101/2024.12.19.6…
