Our universe over a decade 🌟
Time-lapse videos combining more than 10 years of NEOWISE observations and all-sky infrared images show how our cosmos moves and changes over time. See how this helps us better understand the universe.
NEOWISE Revealing Changes in the Universe
These time-lapse movies from NASA’s NEOWISE mission give astronomers the opportunity to see objects, like stars and black holes, as they move and change over time.
Practice makes perfect: we used the NEOWISE mission to measure the physical properties of the asteroid Apophis as part of an international planetary defense exercise led by @moonyguy. NEOWISE paper led by @uarizona senior Akash Satpathy.

Congratulations to graduating @UAZFrankeHonors senior Akash Satpathy, who will be staying at @uarizona for graduate school in planetary science! Working with awesome students and meeting their families gives me hope for the future.

Best part of my job at @UArizonaLPL is when our students graduate. @astro_cantillo graduated as outstanding senior from @UAZFrankeHonors and Grace is headed to CU Boulder for her grad school.

We are sad to learn that professor emeritus Judith Pipher has died, and we offer our condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues in physics & astronomy
Prof. Pipher joined the faculty in 1971 and was one of the first astronomers to turn an infrared array toward the skies
Mourning the loss of dear friend, colleague, and mentor Prof. Judy Pipher, pioneer of infrared astronomy and detectors. She was a giant. Judy, we are lucky to have been able to see the universe through your electronic eyes.

NEW: Arizona hits sad milestone with 25,000 #COVID19 deaths
In the past 7 days there have been 432 deaths alone in Arizona.
We also add another 18K new COVID-19 cases reported in just 24 hours.
Appreciated the chance to speak with @CorbinHiar of @EENewsUpdates and @davidsirota about the need for science-based governance and making stories about climate change. And the importance of snacks.

My heart goes out to friends, colleagues, and everyone suffering from the catastrophic fires in Colorado. Meanwhile, some family members were sheltering in the basement from tornadoes in Alabama last night - in December. We need climate action now.

This is berserk. Kodiak, Alaska hit 65 degrees today, 20 DEGREES warmer than their previous record.
Not their average. Their record.
That's like winning a 5K by ten minutes. Numerous nearby stations recorded similar.
Warmest winter temperature on record. @FOX5DC @MyRadarWX
Had a great chat with Michael Schulman of @NewYorker about why we don't need asteroid insurance but why we still need to look up.
