(2/) Hinton came of age during the cold war. He lived through the Cuban Crisis, Chernobyl, and left the US in 1987 over Reagan-era defense funding.
Hnton appears to be recycling its familiar nuclear-catastrophe narrative:
+ an arms race,
+ irresponsible gov./corporations,
+ scientists losing control, and
+ impending human extinction.
This time, the threat is called “AI.”
A millennium after outsourcing human thought, the pantheon is set: The Order of GPT, The Disciples of Gemini, and The Cult of Claude.
Then the last priest dies without documenting the codebase.
The gods go silent. Humanity learns to think again.

Anthropic is running out of money and playing hardball.
---
Anthropic's technology is based on civilizational theft and its success depends on continued intellectual theft. It has forecast mass-unemployment and existential risk.
+ In April, OpenAI proposed contributing 5% of its equity to a U.S. public wealth fund.
+ U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders proposed a one-time 50% equity tax, giving the American public actual ownership and voting rights.
+ Palantir CEO forecasts Anthropic's nationalization due to its liability problem, ie. 100% equity transfer.
Anthropic has countered by allocating 5% (possibly 20%) equity to its LLC which will finance activities Anthropic defines as the "public good."
Five or twenty percent in exchange for perpetual intellectual theft and a financial rescue is not going to cut it. Here is historical precedent:

+ Bernie Sanders proposed a one-time 50% equity tax, giving the American public actual ownership and voting rights.
+ Palantir CEO has forecast Anthropic's nationalization given their liability risks.
Anthropic has countered by proposing to allocate 5% (maybe 20%) of its shares to their LLC, which will finance activities Anthropic defines as the "public good."
This is not going to cut it. Anthropic is built on perpetual civilizational theft. Here are some historical precedents:
Between this and our prior commitments, roughly 20% of all Anthropic equity will be dedicated to the public good, and that commitment can grow as Anthropic grows.
We plan to use these funds to ensure more people can share in the benefits of AI, and to increase our ability to provide funding to deal with its risks.

No one is impressed by this. Anthropic is the result perpetual civilizational theft. You have forecasted mass-unemployment and existential threat.
Allocating 5% (maybe 20%) of Anthropic shares to an Anthropic LLC, which will finance activities it defines as the "public good," just does not cut it.

Palantir CEO has forecast Anthropic's nationalization.
