A mark of achievement for our teachers and students! Well done.
New PISA data out- and a huge success story. England is now a top-10 education system in the world. Outside of Asia, one of the highest.
New PISA 2025 results:
Science: 8th in the world, up from 13th
Reading: 9th, up from 13th
Maths: 10th, up from 11th.
While much of the OECD has gone backwards, England has has held its ground while most of the world has gone backwards. Huge achievement by school staff.

The assumption that knowledge rich was ever alive and well on the ground is quite an error.
People are starting to write the obituary for England's "knowledge-rich" era.
Before we bury it, I wanted to check something - was it ever really alive?

Hmm...why don't British towns and cities do more to help citizens with the heatwave?

I don't hear much from councils taking action to help people with the heatwave. Here's one, but surely there's a lot they could do...

Professor Lindsay Paterson’s verdict in today’s @scotonsunday could not be clearer. After nearly 20 years of SNP control, Scotland’s education system is in such decline that it could take decades to repair the damage.
The Scottish Conservatives fought the election with a clear plan to restore discipline, back teachers, raise standards, ban mobile phones in classrooms and put knowledge back at the heart of education.
The SNP’s legacy is falling attainment, failing standards and squandered opportunities for a generation of young people. This has been nothing short of managed decline. To say it isn’t good enough is an understatement.

For much of human history, our ancestors were trapped in an economy in which incomes were determined by the size of the population.
The Industrial Revolution ended this Malthusian economy and made it possible for a country to leave abject poverty behind.

ALT Two linked line charts showing England's total GDP and GDP per capita plotted against population from 1450 to 1750, where total GDP rises substantially between 1450 and 1650 but GDP per capita stays largely flat until about 1680, after which per capita incomes begin a sustained increase signaling escape from the Malthusian trap.
