Libertarians, and anarchists, who refuse to engage political power do not weaken the state. They surrender the field to people who are perfectly happy to use that power against them. Govt already taxes us, regulates us, licenses us, surveils us, restricts our choices, and threatens force when we refuse to comply. Pretending that machinery does not exist is not principled resistance. It is unilateral disarmament. We organize because our opponents organize. We run candidates because politicians write the laws. We fight for committee seats because political parties control access and institutions. We use govt authority when necessary to restrain, repeal, decentralize, and dismantle govt authority. Yes, the goal may ultimately be eliminating taxation and replacing coercive govt with voluntary institutions. That does not require pretending we already live in that world now. Nobody wins a fight by throwing away every available tool while the other side keeps theirs. Power exists. The question is whether people who want less of it are willing to organize strongly enough to take it away from those who want more.
