My name is David Gedert and I am a Libertarian Activist. I am speaking with you today to draw attention to a deafening silence following a betrayal from the very leaders that declared themselves our champions. After a decade and a half of telling us that words are violence we are finding those same words used against the trans community. Days after the Libertarian candidate dropped out of the race for US Congress District 9, Marcy Kaptur felt comfortable enough to release an ad, in her own words, in her own voice, using our community as a punching bag, repeating talking points that are weaponized by the Right, that now seem to have become mainstream Democratic Party policy, if we are to take them at their word in their ads. And if they are not, we deserve to know. The Democratic Party raised hundreds of millions of dollars on the backs of the promise to be our voices in government. Apparently, the election calculus of the Democratic Party has led them to the conclusion that they no longer need to stand behind the words, policies, and positions that they purported to hold dear. The ads themselves do enough damage. What is now compounding that damage is the silence from the Politicians and Leaders that have purported to be our voices in government. All those Democrat candidates and incumbents that rode on floats or marched in our Pride Parade, who collected donation after donation on the promise to stand up for us -- Where are you now? And who are you standing for?
