We were thrilled to welcome leaders from @USUhealthsci at @CUAnschutz last week to explore opportunities for growth in innovation, research, & education. We look forward to continuing our collaborations & partnership with USU to find solutions to improve #militarymedicine.
Looking forward to tackling this important challenge for #Ukraine and the US military. Thanks also to @CUCombatCenter @CUEmergency #ATLAS research team, and especially our Ukrainian colleagues, who are inspiring in their commitment and courage.

Congratulations to @OctapharmaUSA on their FDA emergency use authorization for freeze-dried plasma.
The potential impact for our injured warfighters and civilian communities is incredible and we look forward to future collaborations and the delivery of this critical solution!
Excited to share practice-changing results of our PREOXI trial showing preoxygenation with non-invasive ventilation safely reduced hypoxemia by 51% during emergency tracheal intubation @PCCRG @CUEmergency @CUCombatCenter

You are about to do an emergency intubation... do you preoxygenate with a non-rebreather or a pressure mask to reduce the risk of critical desaturation peri-intubation?
#PREOXI results coming soon!
I'll post the link once it's available. Come join us for the results of this @DoD_DHA funded study at the @CritCareReviews meeting!

We look forward to sharing #PREOXI trial results along with @PCCRG colleagues @CritCareReviews evaluating the best way to preoxygenate patients prior to emergency tracheal intubation. Here’s the protocol paper to get you ready:

PREOXI, & the subsequent discussion, will highlight a transatlantic difference in emergency airway management.
Non-rebreather face mask for pre-ox is not standard care where I work.
Roll on the #PREOXI trial results. Thursday, June 13th, 1100 UTC +0.

We look forward to launching this clinical trial next month @uchealth to learn whether etomidate or ketamine prior to emergency intubation is better for patient outcomes. Over 2000 patients will be enrolled at 6 US centers. @CUAnschutz @CUEmergency @CUCombatCenter @PCCRG @PCORI
Two sedatives commonly used when severely ill patients are placed on breathing machines will be put to the test in a new medication study. The study will be led by @AditGinde.

STRIVE and infectious emergency global contingency plan. Visited to the at Univ of Colorada (lead by @AditGinde ) yesterday - they are ready to engage as part of the plan and comes with energy and inspiration. Well done Adit for building such an impressive team.

The most common military prehospital airway intervention is intubation.
This study by April found the following factors associated with 7d survival after intubation:
-Non-depolarizing paralytics (strong)
-Opioids (strong)
-Benzos (weak)
-Ketamine (weak)
This study further highlights that the @DeptofDefense needs to build on #DEVICE and #PREOXI and fund:
-Ketamine versus etomidate
-Roc versus sux
-Post-intubation prop+fent versus midaz+fent versus ketamine

Dr. O2 (aka @JoshDouin) presented some preliminary data from our SAVEO2 burn 🫁 🔥 trial. Key takeaway points:
-Rapid reduction of FIO2 to room air is safe and feasible
-Trend towards more days off oxygen all together
-No apparent risk of harm from lower O2 targets other than possible slower wound healing

Primary outcome - successful intubation on first attempt:
Use of a VL cut in half the incidence of failure to intubate
operators with least prior experience benefited the most from use
Proud of our practice-defining work @PCCRG published @NEJM and @CritCareReviews showing definitively that VL is superior to DL in emergency airway management.

Our autologous blood transfusion study found:
It takes an experienced SOF medic 12 min to obtain one unit of WFWB and 15 min to infuse.
It takes a new medic 19 min to obtain and 24 min to infuse.
Now, we have our performance benchmarks and goals. Start training! – at San Antonio, TX
Great work @kcmolinaID leading this study with strong collaborators @CIDAstats & @mab_colorado. Important to learn as much as we can as #Covid variants and available antivirals rapidly evolve.
