Not saying the coach in me approves. But the fan in me appreciates one of the all-time being hard-up and letting everybody know.
Be curious.
Learn from everyone.
Chase greatness.
We had Mike spend 3 days coaching us one training camp and I still use some of his exercises and sayings to this day.
1) Dip time is much closer than most FB coaches do it. Gate should be in this spacing.
2) Over the last 4-5 years “Chase the hit” has been my coaching que.
3) notice the taller guys. Not everyone majors in below the waist tackle. Taller players also need to adjust “close” foot.
Great example of “full fight, low collision” set up.
Winning the Hit makes life easy but a lot of short yardage plays come down to wining the back-half of the tackle.
Win the leg drive. Win the grapple. Win the fight.
“Sideline tackle” is just Vice Tackle with a player that never loses leverage and never misses.
Although, it is rumored he doesn’t hit very hard.
Drill design fundamental.
If trying to work on something, instead of reducing it down to just do that thing, challenge it.
Over last two years I have used jumps and hops to force “high hips” and challenge dropping quickly, doing so also emphasis low by forcing high start.
Dip and drive. Sink and Go.
The ability to strike is massive and too many condense way too early. Think Ploy, done and in fast.
Big power, small spaces from all different starting positions.
Simply crushed.
Would be impossible to say how much this man helped me to live my dream.

Beyond “squeeze the air out of the bag” this is my go-to to learn how strong you have to be to really control a human why is trying to get away. Win the space. Win the hit. Win the grapple. Dominant clamp.

New Zealand All Blacks. Got to get your hits in. Fast. Hard. Need to: be in good timing, power coordination, accuracy, speed of stroke and working through that big bump-robust to contact.
To limit contact load, bags and mats can be a good inseason choice.
Last clip. Huge hit but arms still get around. Hand to far wrist is normally a good sign we got deep into the tackle.
RTP progression from @RichieGrayGSI @AthleteShoulder simple thoughts for better progressions. Example below:
1-ISOs to refund/reeducate body shape.
2-Player movement stationary standalone bag.
3-Player and bag moving (un resisted).
4-Player and bag moving w/weight behind it.
