It’s amusing to poke fun at the hot takes on just how easy it is to run the site, or be distracted by the latest Elon shitpost, but let’s not lose track of the fact that $13B debt added to the balance sheet killed the company way more effectively than firing all the SREs.

I was laid off from Twitter this afternoon. I was in charge of managing badge access to Twitter offices.
Elon just called me and asked if I could come back to help them regain access to HQ as they shut off all badges and accidentally locked themselves out.

While a number of people in the replies are taking this literally, this is a joke.
Just a few days earlier, this same user claimed to have been laid off by a different company:

just so were all clear, Musk is firing half of Twitter's staff, including huge swaths of their content moderation capability, four days before opening up identity-confirmation-free verification to the whole website which will happen...the day before a national election.

here’s a live wire you can handle, a firehose you can safely sip from, poisoned though the waters. a place where animals, plants, and minerals momentarily make monuments in miniature together.

Tweeps are just hanging out in Slack saying nice things to each other until their access is cut off. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Some really incredible people leaving Twitter tonight. We are all worse off without them there

Since I left twitter people have regularly asked me if it was this wild while I was there. For the first time, I can say no.

I don’t know many people who still work at Twitter but I think anyone who had any history with the company has to feel awful about what’s happening right now. I know I do. Folks deserved better.

There is of course a nuanced debate to be had about content moderation but right now we've reset the clock about 15 years as folks fumble through a first principles approach. And that makes dunking very easy but makes the risk of real harm very high.

CA friends! If you haven’t returned your recall ballot, today is a great day to vote “no” and drop it in the mail! Let’s not trade Newsom (who can be a ding dong but has solid policies) for an anti-mask, anti-minimum wage, anti-environment zealot. Please and thank you.

There’s an A++ all-teen and pre-teen East Bay metal band playing at Grand and Eagle. Come watch before APD tries to shut it down.
