Many people are under the mistaken impression that Europe was somehow never as car-centric as the US, and has always been magically car-free. Truth is, cities like Amsterdam and Paris made a dedicated effort to give their cities back to the people. #transportation #urbanmobility
Remember this picture every single time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam." This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s, via @fietsprofessor. The cities we admire made better choices regarding cars, and are still making them today. Better choices instead of excuses.

The overall UK tax burden is due to hit the highest level since the 1940s (largely because the levels at which people are pulled into higher tax bands has been frozen). Taken from a number of interesting economic graphs here news.sky.com/story/the-key-e…

And imagine this happening, in the same country: A man commits a crime involving millions of ££, and conceals it. He threatens those investigating it, lies about it to his employers, then when he’s finally caught, agrees to hand over just some of the money. And he keeps his job.
This how HMRC deals with rich tax evaders, if it bothers to at all. Nadhim Zahawi has agreed to pay the £3,700,000 tax bill he lied about for 6 years and took HMRC to court. He should be sent to jail for fraud. RT if you want to see him in jail.

THIS IS SHOCKING Imagine a country where a man has spent 18 years in jail for trying to steal a coat or imprisoned for 11 yrs for stealing a mobile phone - sentences described by the UN as egregious miscarriages of justice it’s unthinkable & it’s happening in this country NOW

"the overall trend showcases significant strides in improving air quality" - The trend since 2010 is abysmal. ☠️👎
Despite a slight increase in 2021, the UK has achieved remarkable progress in reducing particulate matter emissions. 🇬🇧 Annual emissions of PM10 have dropped by🔻79% since 1970, while PM2.5 emissions have seen an 85% reduction during the same period. Over the years, factors like decreased coal burning and enhanced emission standards for transport and industry played crucial roles. Although the UK fell just short of its 30% reduction commitment for PM2.5 in 2021, the overall trend showcases significant strides in improving air quality. Let's celebrate the positive impact on our environment! #AirPollution #SmartAir #UK #PM2.5

Thousands of leaseholders trapped in building safety crisis found out their 'building warranty' is just an empty shell. Warranty providers such as @Zurich @NHBC & others will endlessly drag their feet, deny and obfuscate. A building warranty is a worthless piece of paper.
Are they not the warranty provider? Surely that means there’s limited scope for them to deny cover? There are faults. They need fixing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Your regular reminder that 81% of new social housing lettings go to white British tenants and 90% go to UK nationals. At a dangerous political moment, please don't let the right establish one of their favourite narratives (lies): that immigrants get all the council housing.

Councils ‘held to ransom’ by private providers of children’s care. One child cost a local authority £63,000 a week, or £3.3m a year. All because care services are privatised, handed to profiteering firms. Privatisation is a scam. theguardian.com/society/2023…

Looking forward to keep working with @sarahjolney1 to make #HammersmithBridge crossing possible for everybody in our community. @CastelnauCentre @CllrMillum @_wearepossible
The Pedicabs (London) Bill is a welcome piece of legislation that could allow rickshaws to be used as a temporary solution to transport people across Hammersmith Bridge during the ongoing closure. The Transport Secretary should meet with me to explore this potential opportunity.
