It is deeply troubling and disappointing to see an Islamic scholar of such global prominence as Dr. @drzakiranaik rationalise the Taliban’s systematic exclusion of girls from education.
Presenting an indefinite ban as a mere “postponement” and invoking a shortage of female teachers without explaining how that shortage can be addressed is not a credible defence.
Such arguments risk legitimising the Taliban’s gender apartheid and lending religious credibility to a grave injustice.

Pakistan spends trillions of rupees on education every year, yet the public has limited understanding of how this money is classified, released and ultimately spent.

Last month at the @gpforeducation replenishment event in New York, lower-income countries committed $471 billion from their national budgets for education over five years.
The biggest threat to those commitments is debt. 113 countries are spending more on paying back loans than on their schools. And when education budgets tighten, girls are the first to lose out.
📣 We’re calling on economic leaders and lenders to treat girls’ education as part of the path out of debt crises, rather than a cost to cut.
